Don’t stress about the dial restore. I would ask him to do it however will get the best result. You are keeping the watch. Do what you want.

I really hoped I’d see that beauty restored by the time I got to the end of the thread. Guess I have to subscribe now. Lol.

Nothing wrong with your hands OP, rugged hands are appreciated in my industry.

Thanks MrGoat :)

I think in a normal world we would have had some progress by now. Hopefully in a few weeks things will gain momentum and updates (with photos) will start coming thick and fast. Cheers

Hi guys, so the latest is the dial should be back with me any day now and I will forward it on for the restoration.

In the meantime I have to locate hands to ship with it so they can be 'lume matched' with the dial. I was offered a set of aftermarket hands, but I would like to use original 5513 hands. A mate I have met through my posts regarding this watch has offered some hands, but I just need to know they will fit this watch (?) before they go off to be lumed painted. He sent me some shots of a set he has. he has a few more sets but he said this was the most decent set as the rest are really rough.

Cheers! I feel like we are on the home stretch now. Can't wait to be wearing this again. Anyhow, this has been a good distraction from all the other things going on in the world right now

Well this is what happens when you leave a dial in a hot tin shed for 35 plus years. I would have been fine if the plexi wasnt taken off, oh well, my step dad was a tinkerer. I can just imagine him thinking he could fix whatever was wrong, popping it open and then putting it down and forgetting about it.

Well the dial is in Hong Kong now, so I guess we will have some sort of an idea as to how good a decision this was to have it partially restored. Personally, I just couldnt leave it the way it was all dirty and scratched up with missing lume. I know that isnt how my step father last saw it (I think).

Here are some photos I took before I sent the watch away for its service, I never posted them before.

You are keeping the watch to wear. Don’t second guess the decision. I’m excited to see it.

You only live once. Think how sweet it will be to have a nice vintage Rolex with a dial that is aesthetically pleasing to look at.

If you changed the dial you change the watch. If you ever sell it, I suggest you don’t, simply disclose the history and the work done and your GTG. The dial is damaged, fixing it makes sense.

Thanks guys :) Its been a long wait but you are all right, its definitely worth getting it back to the way I remember it and making it functional again.

With the dial, I have saved all the emails regarding the restoration and I will be printing them out and putting them in the box with the watch. The same goes for the bracelet pieces I have with this watch, if I get them put back together I will make sure it is noted its been restored.

Good decision to restore. That’s not the sort of “patina” anyone is interested in preserving.

Does anyone happen to know the correct bracelet for one of these? I have a pile of bracelet pieces in the box for this watch, but I think I am going to have to buy a replacement one or wear this on a nato strap.

I think you are going to be looking for a 7206 with 80 endlinks. Just out of curiosity, why not have the 9315 that you have restored? Best of luck!!

Maybe you have a bracelet in pieces that can be repaired and restored. Classicwatchrepair in HK (referred to previously in this thread, I think) routinely restores Rolex bracelets. If you have most of the parts, they could likely put it back together, and for substantially less money than buying a 7206 that is in good condition.

I do have bracelet pieces, but they are more like debris than actual parts. The clasp is from 1971 and there are a few links but the rest look a bit rooted.
