Slightly Neurotic Question About Crown Alignment
So is there a method to screwing in the watch's crown so that the Rolex emblem on the crown is properly aligned upward when everything is snugged down tight? Or does this just differ from watch to watch? Thanks.

Differs from watch to watch. I've had a 50% hit rate over the years

I've had a much lower success rate than 50% with my Rolexes tbh.
Surprisingly, I've had 2 different Omega ATs and they were perfectly aligned. Made my inner OCD very happy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have more than a dozen and I really don't notice where the crown rests on any of them.. especially when I'm wearing one.

This again. .. Ok, I'll play. My Air King is straight north and my DJ41 faces east. I noticed on a lot of pictures of DJ41 where the crowd is facing east. Go figure. .:)

Hold your watch gently in your left hand. - Pull out the crown - Turn your body to face North. - Lift your left leg in the air - do NOT bend your knee. - Hop up and down 3 times while saying "Rumplestiltskin, Rumplestiltskin, Rumplestiltskin" Then... screw in your crown. Does it look straight to you now? |

if it does now it won't forever anyway, as the rubber gasket will compress overtime and flatten from is spongy rounded original shape when brand new, meaning your crown will screw down and rotate more than on a new watch , so this is an impossibility to maintain in the long run anyway

Your stuck with the cards your dealt on this one. I've only had one that was straight up, my Zblue. I'm glad I'm not too OCD anymore.

Stop comparing Rolex advertisements to your watch. They are photoshopped and all the watches display the same time. There's no rule for a crown to line up to anything.

The crown on my DJ was tilted slightly to the left for 17 years. Then I took it to the RSC for service, and now it tilts slightly to the right.

I understand where the OP is coming from. None of mine point north (like the ads). I would prefer if they would line up or they should go with a symbol like PP where perfectly aligned isn't as important. Personally, I don't think about it too much but I have one that points to the southern half. I like it better if it stayed pointing somewhere on the north side (but doesn't have to be perfect).

Why?
My hubcaps are always right way up. Or upside down in Oz.

Perhaps they should remove the crown emblem as it seems to bring out the crown emblem syndrome in many. Then everyone's crown would line up somewhere, thats if its supposed to line up with anything.

There is only one reference where the crown is guaranteed to line up, a sky dweller one I think. There is even a patent for the mechanism that allows it.
