I've had the OP39 in blue & white

Both were short lived. While the white dial was really nice, the best OP39 imo, I did get a little bored of it and it was the first to go when I needed funds for a new piece. And I tend to like uncluttered watches. It was almost too plain ...

This...I have learned the hard/expensive way to get what my heart desires from the get go. Nothing wrong with the white dial OP unless you want a Sub more.

Get what you like but do I regret purchasing my OP39? Nope.

I love the OP39. Love it. Was just curious people's opinions who have bought it.

I haven't seen much coverage on this forum for the OP39, so I wasn't sure what everyone's thoughts are!

Looks like I'm gonna pull the trigger on the OP39 this week.

:-)

Thanks everyone,

Kyle

Depending on how much you are keen on watches. For some people one watch would be enough for their whole life, for others it is an infinitive search of the “grail” watch regardless what kind of collection they have already had.

If you want a sub now, then most likely you would like to get it at some point in time in the future no matter what you would have by then.

As for OP39 it is a good watch to open Rolex door....

I just picked a white one up last week while on vacation and I absolutely love its versatility. I have a decent collection of sport and some dress watches but for me this covers a lot in one package. I rarely wear one watch more than a few days in a row, but this has been getting a lot of wear since the purchase. good luck!

Definitely try on both the 5-digit Sub and OP39 white dial before making a purchase decision. They wear very differently on the wrist and you would wear them for different occasions.

OP 39 Is a great first Rolex. Plus you can buy it now at msrp.

I’ve seen a lot of overpriced moderate to less than moderate condition 5 series Subs out there. Make sure you buy the seller if you go that route

I'm a huge fan of the Oyster Perpetual - the white and black dial are just sooo classic in my opinion. That being said it wears much different compared to the Sub. Buy what you want and what speaks to you.

Get the sub if that’s what you’d get if there were no financial constraints.

You'll 100% regret it. I recently picked up the OP34 white dial and it's absolutely killed my collection dead. So much so that I'm considering selling everything off and going down the one watch route.

These white/black OPs are timeless classics and amount to everything you need and nothing you don't.

You've got to buy what YOU love though.

I faced the same dilemma. I have always wanted a sub, but I wanted to buy brand new from my AD. I chose the blue dial op and have not regretted my decision at all. No wait, no nonsense. I walked in and purchased at MSRP. The AD experience is the way to go. Especially with the 1:1 reps out there. Erases all doubt. This watch is stunning in person and it puts a smile on my face everytime I look at my wrist.

I love it

Just because everyone "needs" a sport model I say get what you like. I love simple so these watches are great. Explorer is another idea.

The OP39 (especially with white dial) looks surprisingly big on the wrist.

I myself fell in love with the white OP39 from pictures online, ordered one from my AD, and when it came in and I tried it on was bummed by how much space it needlessly took up on the wrist...and I have a 7.5inch wrist so I can easily handle the size.

To the OP, try on the OP39 first and see if you're still hungry for it after seeing it on your wrist.

Two questions:

1 - Will I own it and wish I spent a little more money to get a Sub Date? (preceramic)

2 - To those who own the OP39 - any regrets otherwise? Still loving it?

Sorry, these probably sound like dumb questions, but I'm anxious/excited about my first Rolex purchase!!

- Kyler

They are different watches, totally different. So do you want a diver or a dress/sport watch?

What worries me about your question is that you may be settling for an OP39 because it is readily available, when you really want a Sub. Buy what you love always, because if you don't you will want to sell it a year later. Buy what you love.

As everyone says these are very different watches. There’s something really special about a Rolex with a white dial. I’ve owned the OP39 in white since February and really love it. Paired with my 16710 and a Speedy 145.022 it’s an ideal trio.
Whether you wind up getting the 5 digit Sub or not, you will eventually want to get the white OP39. I suggest you check out Tourneau. They offer 30 month 0% financing, which is what I did. That way you can buy both the OP and the Sub.

I own a white OP 36. I love it, wear it every day! But once in a while it feels like it's a bit on the dressy side, and then I think how cool it would be to have a 100% tool watch, with a bezel I could play with, and which would look really cool when it gets a bit scuffed up!
So, even though I love my white OP, I think maybe you should wait for the Sub?

The OP won’t have date complication like the sub. If a fluted bezel is too flashy, potentially white dial datejust with domed bezel

I've always been paranoid of owning white objects, with fears of discolouration over time.

The white dial is really gorgeous IMO, but the silly part of me is worried that the dial might discolour over time. So I chose a black dial one instead for myself, since it was gonna be a keepsake daily-beater that I will most probably be hanging on to for a really long time.

That's the only bit of information you need to properly inform your decision. And in view of this, it is safe to say that you are making a good decision.

Assuming that you don't want a dive watch. Might I respectfully suggest that you are over thinking it? You've already answered your own question.

No regrets.

I've come from other rolexes over the years, SS, TT, and PM, and I've consolidated down just to the 39mm white OP purchased at a discount (still possible these days, folks!) at an AD a few months ago and I continue to be pleased with my one simple watch.

I just received my 114300 white dial, 1 link out, adjusted the basic clasp thingie, fits. I do wear my watches a bit loose. I am happy with it, I’m liking simpler watches, and this is simple, fairly light weight & comfortable for me.
