The AD told me the story about the Meteor dial but can some refresh my memory. I did remeber he said it landed in Africa and Rolex purchased it? It was a cool story.

Not sure where it landed, but YES ,the dial is a thin slice of an actual meteorite.
There is a large numbe of meteorites harvested from Africa. I understand, that the landscape makes them easier to find than other parts of the world. Also, the local people scour the landscape looking for them.

A meteor is still in the sky, a meteorite is a meteor that has landed on a surface.

Something like that.
BUT, if you check at "rock shops" you can pick up a genuine meteorite for reasonable prices.
A piece that ( at least I think) you could actually disect into a piece the size of a dial, can be found for $100 - $200 CDN.
