Thoughts On Sending My Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar For Refinishing?

Hi friends. I added this RO QP to my collection earlier this year. It's a steel/platinum version where the polished parts designate platinum. My understanding from the vintage dealer was that the watch was untouched, but I've been considering sending it to AP for a light refinishing to bring back some of its luster. It looks stunning, but sitting next to a modern 15202, it's definitely a bit softer. I'm curious if any other experienced Royal Oak enthusiasts can provide their thoughts. There's always a risk with refinishing where too much metal is taken off, etc. I'd hate for it to come back with a bezel that no longer has the bolts as sunken. A replacement platinum bezel isn't a cheap purchase. Thanks!

Doesn't look bad to me, in my opinion don't think it is worth polishing, still looks very good.

I wouldn't. Also the brush finish on the post 2010 royal oaks are quite aggressive and deeper versus how they used to do it. Even new old stock older oaks look "softer" because of this since the factory finish is fundumentally different (I think).

Thanks! Interesting. This was my suspicion as well, but I could never verify it. The recent brush finish is really something special and seems to be unmatched by other manufacturers.

I would avoid refinishing until there's a dent/scratch big enough to force the issue.

As others have said, your watch looks great. It doesn’t need a polish. Wear and enjoy. Nice watch.

In agreement with others, those hairlines on bezel doesn't warrant a polish.

On the topic of brush finish pre-2010... That bracelet has with out a doubt been refinished at least once.

Looks great and I would leave it alone and wear and enjoy it. Wait until the movement needs a service and then consider it.

Not sure there is such a thing as a light refinishing. They either will polish it or not, so don't kid yourself. If you must do it, I would only have AP polish it, it will be the best you could hope for. Also Watch Eric has a great video on a guy in Miami that does amazing work

Honestly doesn’t look too bad, I’d keep it as is. Polish might round the edges more

The angles on these models are similar to the Rolex OQ case and bracelet and can lose their sharp edges very easily.

Your watch’s bracelet looks ok but the bezel may be letting the team down a little.

I’m not sure as to what would do.

Is it a stainless steel or Pt bezel on this model?

Nice pix BTW.

I personally would not.

Huge risk the edges don't come back how you picture they will.

That aside, I think it really looks great as is. Fantastic piece.
