Has anybody here been to Tahiti (Bora Bora)??
Looking for a little insight/tips and thoughts from anyone who's been to this South Pacific nation.......
The wife and I are tossing around the idea of 5 to 7 days (nights) there either on the way to, or back, from Australia in the December January months ahead! A long way off ATM, but certainly scouring all avenues of information. So what better place to start than TRF!! Any input is appreciated!!

Thanks Bob... I'm starting to see the high cost and it's remoteness in the world!! That is making it all the more alluring as well, unfortunately.... From the pics I've seen, it looks gorgeous though! Flights seem to be awkward however. They only run what looks like two days a week from Auckland, and not sure yet how many a week from LA. I can't even seem to find a definite list of carriers flying into Tahiti?!?! Other than their own national airline (Air Tahiti Nui), but was hoping to accumulate points with a Star Alliance member....

Likewise, in the '90s. Astoundingly expensive, although a trip to the local supermarket helped a bit...

Looking at hotels with breakfast and dinner included, I'm getting results of $1000 per night +!! That is an over water bungalo though..... Although, doesn't include air transfers from mainland Tahiti, let alone an air ticket there and out.... Not even internet included, that's extra!!!

Good luck Rob - it's a beautiful part of the world. We had to get a ferry from Tahiti to Moorea, then nearly missed it on the return journey thanks to a taxi that did not show up at the hotel. Cycling around the islands is fun, if you grow weary of lazing on a pristine beach!

Kauai is the closest looking to the Society islands, the oldest island in the Hi. island chain, no lagoon, but beautiful beaches, warm ocean water, nice locals & less cost than French Polynesia.

I understand it is uncomfortable feeling isolated/cut off. However, in my book, if you can allow yourself the space to feel at ease, you might find yourself at peace. just a thought passing through the sieve of my mind....

Hi Rob,
I haven't been to Tahiti but have you considered Fiji? The wife and I were there in 2005 and had a fabulous time. Fijian people were wonderful, great hotels, food, beaches and site seeing. Bigger airport as well. Cost can be more reasonable too. Just a thought...

I was in Tahiti and Bora Bora for six days about a year and half ago. Super awesome place if you are into snorkeling, scuba diving, and being 'trapped' on a island paradise. Tahiti is less isolated and I really had a better experience in Bora Bora. Meals are super expensive there amongst other things. I have heard Fiji offers a similar experience but easier on the wallet. Regret not seeing Moorea also as I have heard it is more beautiful than Tahiti and it is just a short 30min commuter flight away from Tahiti compared to over an hour flight for Bora Bora. We went on Air Tahiti Nui since that seem to be the only option.

Thanks for the help and suggestions so far everyone!!!!!
As for Fiji and the Islands of Hawaii, we've been to both on numerous occasions already. In fact, I met my wife in Fiji, and that place has always had a special place in our hearts.... However, we like to spice the travel scene up a little every year, and funny enough, Bora Bora has hit the top of the list this year. At least my wife says so.... and I'm Ok with it really!! Des, enjoy that trip in China mate. I do remember talking to you about it, and we will have to make it happen one year!!! Perhaps when Dalip takes us on tour through south Asia up to India?? Thanks again for the input all.
