11 GMTs were different to 11 Subs. So, yes you can. Different (slimmer) lugs, different case thickness/height, different machining for the bezel and crown guards. Similar design, but not the same case.

There is much conjecture about 12 GMT's having slimmer lugs again than 11 GMTs. Rolex referred to it as reprofiled or redesigned from memory.

I see a very subtle re shaping between 11 and 12 GMTs.
