Ill fitting end links on my C&I Rivet Band Question???
whilst attached to my 7928 Sub..What am I doing wrong? Do I need to squeeze them tighter? What's the problem, they don't seem to fit too well or is this what I'm to expect with vintage? Thanks! Steve

They don't look poorly fitted, just the wrong end links. The experts here may be able to give you the proper number for the end links. Robert |

I don't know if they are correct or not... What I see is that they have already been squeezed too much..
What happens is the capture tube stretches or wears thinner, or the spring bars wear and owners just squeeze them together to get the top curve back against the case... .............This is not the proper way to adjust them.. Usually, to take up that little bit of slack, the batwings on the back are bent in slightly which rotates the top back towards the case.. Yours have already been bent out of shape so it takes a steady hand to get them back into the proper contour... It is time consuming work to do it wello, but not impossible Here you can see the slight bend to the batwings in the back to get a good contour fit on the other side (top)

Tools if the end pieces are bent that bad, would it be a good idea to replace them with ones that are NOS.
BTW: The spring bar tubes in the end links were distorted on my old end pieces. I replaced both of mine for about 120.00 USD for some NOS, took some time finding them, but is was worth it. |

yeah,it appears the inner tube needs to be crimped in slightly which will draw it closer to the case and then once its to the desired positioning you can bend the outer shell
to match the case...PM me and we will figure it out. |

Thanks for all the help guys, I have done what Tools suggested and it worked great, I may have to take it off again and play with the shape, but for now it's 100% better than it was. I ended up opening it a bit and bending the wings down and that in turn brought it closer to the case!

This is common. Just make sure your adjusments don't allow the end links to rub your case down in one place, or another.

Perhaps replacement may be the easiest way...certainly the most expensive option short of re-welding...but they aren't that tough to bend around a bit if you're careful..
Glad it's working for you.. A proper restoration may include shimming the case side of the tube by soldering thin half tubes inside, or having completely new spring-bar tubes welded in.. It depends on how deep into the hobby you are.......

Could having the wrong diameter spring bars affect this as well? The photos look like it takes the larger diameter spring bars. I am no expert on this though.

Wow Steve... those end pieces are severely misshapen... I probably would have replaced them.

Yes........ frequently end links don't fit tight because they have the smaller 1.8mm diameter spring bars, or the more watch standard 1.5mm and not the correct Rolex 2mm spring bars for through lug hole cases.. Of course, some Rolex watches do take 1.8mm spring-bars...

What sizes are the corresponding case hole sizes for the different spring bars? Is this also a clue to the size spring bars that should be fitted?
