Explorer II 1979

This is my Explorer II. It has a 631xxxx serial number, so its from around 1979.
I have never been sure whether its a true "orange hand".
The extra hour hand looks Orange, but I have read (online) that the hand colour
was switched to red in the mid 1970s. Does anyone know more on this?

Its the only pic I have of it right now. I had just taken a pic of the serial numbers and decided to do this as a wallpaper for the pc ... and to use as my icon. I just joined the forum!

Nice pics but it looks like someone polished this watch with a scouring pad?

I swear I've met some of the nicest people from NY. I also think that watch is awesome.

Is that it? or is it years of wear?

I took it into an AD, and asked them about polishing the bracelet.
They advised against it because they can only polish the bracelet but not the bezel
and it would look 'uneven'.

I am fairly certain its the original bracelet - a 78360.
Any advice?

A decent watchmaker should be able to polish the bezel. Take it to someone else.

Love your watch.

I think your bezel and bracelet can be properly polished. It looks to me like someone tried to polish it with something very abrasive. I don't think its normal wear.

Check out this thread. I just sent a couple of bracelets to Dalton after the positive reviews.

Thanks Charlie,
The results look really good and is an eye opener.
Now I have to decide whether to let the watch stay in its kinda battered well used look, or restore it to well cared for look ... ... I do like that right now I can wear the watch without being 'careful'.
