Yeah seen it from 65k to 74k in the grey, doesn’t make sense to buy it from an AD unless you don’t have an AD with a relationship. And yeah future allocators are just the cherry on top.

So for me Platona

I would hate to see the resale on the 5170P down the road. Big hit from retail.

I own both and while the 5170P is perfect in so many ways, the reality is I wear the Platona far more often because it's a sports watch. BUT, it never stops being heavy. The watch constantly reminds you it's on your wrist and I find that annoying. I think it's partially due to the oyster bracelet, because I recently tried on a platinum DD40 and it was a much different wrist feel.

I won’t even go with the price going down issue, because that’s not the biggest problem. The biggest problem is that there is no market for it. Does It has WIS appreciation ? Absolutely, unfortunately we don’t rule the market.
The only way to enjoy dress watches is to buy it , enjoy it and don’t worry about the market , cut your losses from the moment you buy it.
Personally I can’t do that , yeah I love the hobby but don’t have enough money to don’t care.

My guess is the opposite. The grey on the 5170P has always been $20k off sticker, but now that it's discontinued, I really don't see a scenario where it keeps going down.

This is why I never seriously considered getting a new complicated Patek dress piece. My 20 years old 3998P is prob worth less than the amount many chronos and PCs drop as you leave the store and I enjoy wearing it w/o ever thinking about value. If I get another dress piece it will likely be vintage, a 3466 or 3483.

Polls , Platinum watches , 5170p and Daytona
which one you preferred ?
As a current owner of a 5170P, the 5170P will naturally be my choice. Putting the watch on always makes me happy. It just looks so great on the wrist and so photogenic and beautiful. Resale value? Don't care. I used to have this concern before I bought it ( even started a thread on this ) so yes, it will be good if it keep or even goes up in value but if it doesn't, it won't matter to me because I can't forsee myself ever selling it as it's a keeper.

As for platona, I don't like chronographs with screw-down pushers and I don't like overly heavy watches so it's a no-go for me.

5088P is a dress piece that would not depreciate.

Exactly, that’s the ticket cut your losses from the beginning and don’t care about value, because if you do you are gonna be miserable.
I know I can’t stop thinking about it, so it’s all about knowing yourself

Cheers

That one is not for me as I very much prefer "less is more" in terms of look.

It is funny that the very same reason some people dislike the platona is my reason to prefer and love it, i.e. The weight

The weight is the main reason why I love full platinum watches.

I want Patek to make a 5990/1P for this reason. :)

I'd buy two, damnit.
