I like to talk about watches. I have no long sleeved shirts, no suit, no luggage and my wife's engagement ring cost <$400 (in 1973). I DO have a car to get me from point A to B. I don't give a Tinker's Cuss about the stinking steering wheel. I'm not here to flaunt my non-existent wealth.

All I can say is that I purchased my ex'es and mine probably a year before I ever knew watch forums existed.

I joined to learn about the differences between a 16610 and 116610.

Then I was able to buy my SubC from a trusted seller. Joining was the best decision ever.

I joined some years back, to look browse the marketplace to look for used Panerai. My target was for a PAM176. Naturally, I started looking at Rolexes on this forum, and gravitated towards the Submariner. My world before this was Rolex = Datejust, and the DJ was just not my thing then.

Since I couldn't afford the Submariner or even a used PAM176, I actually ended reading about the Tudor Pelagos (close enough to Sub case, and titanium!?) and quickly pulled the trigger. Then later, I purchased a PAM000 from TRF. Eventually, I did buy my Sub :-)

I joined because I was planning on buying a Rolex and I wanted to educate myself beyond "Oooh pretty" as well as build my knowledge of the pre-owned market so I could make an informed choice when buying.

I stayed because of the wonderful group of people on the forum who are from as diverse a range of backgrounds as anyone could imagine but united by a shared passion and who go out of their way to accept and welcome new people.

The point I was trying to make is that I personally never post that stuff, but loads of people on the watch section post pics of (ostensibly) their watches, which just happen, by a complete fluke, to be right in front of some high-value item or other as listed in my post. If it's in a car/wife's jewellery/wallet/luggage thread, then it's fair enough. But in a watch/incoming/collection thread, well, I think it's a little vulgar.

It was a joke, dude, just my way of poking fun at show-offs. Sorry if I hit a nerve as it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular.

Ok, maybe it was a joke, maybe it wasn't, but just cool it on the negativity that pervades a lot of your posts. It is getting very tiresome.

I have no idea what you are driving at, and quite frankly why should I care what you think about my posts? It was a light-hearted dig at the small minority of people here who seem to think that displaying their wealth in public is impressive and should command respect. It's not as if other members here haven't noticed this tendency. If you don't like my posts, ignore them.

This is a forum. It's a watch forum, not a wealth forum. What happens on forums is that you will come across people who have different opinions from yours. I think we all have to live with that.

FWIW, I'm not too fond of your posts or general tone, but the difference is that I can live with it without whinging, which is why I've never mentioned it.

Hollister I had you on ignore for the exact reason Neil states up until yesterday when for some reason I wanted to see a post of yours. Guess what, you're going back on ignore, not because you don't know anything about watches but because you're generally unpleasant.

Thanks for the ad hom.

AFAIK, I haven't had any infraction points as these are apparently emailed to you. If you don't like my opinions, you are more than welcome to argue the point with me, as this is a forum. If you don't like me, what can I say? We've never met.

I can't help feeling that I've upset a couple of "high rollers" who are taking themselves a bit seriously.

The real reason I joined the forum was to discuss watches, as if you didn't know. I know I'm an FPJ fanboy and posted a thread to that effect, because I have the ability to laugh at myself, but I like loads of other brands as well, and in terms of numbers in my collection, Rolex comes out top.
