Icon7 Black or Blue

I've really been contemplating a PM Sub. I was considering a Smurf but find myself more and more drawn to the yellow gold model. There's just something about the softness and glow of the yellow gold that draws me in.

I was convinced I made up my mind to go with the Black but now more and more I find myself infatuated with the Blue.

I plan to wear the piece more casually - weekends and dinners out etc vs in a business setting.

I know it is but oddly enough I don't consider it to be an overly flashy watch. I also think that the abundance of gold Michael Kor's watches out there has toned down the perception of a gold watch as well - debatable I know.

Which would you go with or which did you go with and why?

Not my photos but figured a visual is always good.

For me, it doesn't get any better than that sunburst blue.

I vote blue. That dial against the gold is stunning

Black. Blue is spectacular, no doubt. Black is more enduring and compliments, rather than competes, with the gold.
Can’t go wrong tho.

I have also be stalking the YG Sub. I like the black. It seems to tone down the gold even more. Either color is fantastic in person but the black seems to be a bit harder to find used which indicates fewer production and less seller remorse.

I’m a SMURF fan and owner. I like the stealth more than the bling of yellow gold. But if I went yellow, got to have the blue dial. Not even a question for me. But, you need to get what makes YOU happy. You’re not getting it to make me or the others happy. If the black makes your nads tingle, go black. You want that tingle every time you look down at it.

I’d say the blue, given what you describe as your intended use. I have the blue, and it’s a beautiful dial, and the watch I receive the most compliments on. So I think the blue is more noticeable to others, and I believe that’s due to the blue bezel insert. I’ve had a black dial YG GMT, and I prefer that dial in that particular YG model, and it didn’t get as much attention as the blue dial sub.
So I’d say the the black is a bit more subdued, as much as a YG sub can be anyway. :)
Both are spectacular on the wrist, no wrong choice here! Good luck.

The black because a cat would not look good in that shade of blue. I think the blue screams too loud and isn't as classy as the black.

With the full YG, I prefer the black. Either color for TT.

That black looks sexy. The blue reminds me of a Pelagos (don't know why, but it does).

Personally, the black goes much better with yellow gold.

I think it depends on what else you have in your collection? For me it would be the black because it’s more versatile but if I had other watches to fill that niche, then the blue is a winner as well.

Overall, I think black and gold are perfect together.

Black for me. That's my grail watch. Almost pulled the trigger on it, but I realized that I couldn't afford the piece. Eventually, I will save enough to go with the 6 digit because I do prefer the solid feel of the 6 digit bracelet. Blue looks amazing but not on my skin tone. Make sure you try both on. Once I did, the black became the obvious winner.

When faced with the decision, I chose black. Blue is stunning but I find yellow gold to pair nicer with black. Also find the black dial less loud, so to speak

I went with black and decided on the 16618, as for full PM I found the watch more elegant and restrained (if you can call a full gold watch restrained!) I love six digits and own a 114060 and previously owned a ceramic bluesy. Now that blue dial, I loved it, but it does enter a room before you do. Either way you cant go wrong, but for me somehow the 16618ln is just more versatile.... I hope you make it happen, you wont regret it!

I'd go for blue. I'm hoping Rolex will release a Smurf SD43 in 2021, a Bluesy SD43 at the very least.

They are both great looking pieces, but I favor black. I think with the yellow gold it looks more masculine. Just my 2 cents

Very tough decision. I give the edge to the blue for the nautical submariner theme, the casual vibe, and the sunburst dial is great. But, the black is very classy and maybe a better all-purpose gold sub. Also, black dials can be found on the DD, Daytona and (previously) the GMT in yellow gold, whereas the blue is unique to the sub.
