3,6,9 Sub, anyone got one of these?

Not a massive fan myself, but would like to own one for obvious reasons

250K I’m going for, certainly a crazy find for the people who inherited and who can blame them for selling at that price.

Think I would buy a new sub to replace it, I’m sure a AD would help if you explained that situation especially knowing you have 250K in the bank or would they consider you to just be the worlds biggest flipper??

Kinda reminds me of this $1m Sub....albeit seemingly different scales of rarity.

I’d like to think the original owner would be thrilled that his watch purchase could provide a comfortable life for his grandchildren. Great story!

Great to sell. Aesthetically I prefer without the numbers.

By the time the auction house takes their fees the owner will probably be left with 50 quid!!

A savvy owner ,bought a Rolex and kept all the boxes and paperwork .

Rolex with no paperwork ,doesn't exist .

Hope the family does well .What percentage will the auctioneer take ?

It seems to have an amazingly pristine “original box” for a 1960’s purchase...

I used to follow a bloke on the gram who had a similar insane collection - but his posts got repetitive so I unfollowed him.....his account was Kvev or something - literally dozens of rare expensive vintage sports models

Tbh .. the devil is in the detail for condition and hence value .. a scratch or drag mark on the dial can easily change the price £100k either way , the auction photos aren’t of the quality to allow a proper assessment , and with that much lume having fallen out of the minute hand an in person inspection is essential in this case , there’ll be people looking in person over the next week or two

That is so true. And comparing yours to the auction pic, some dial refurbishment may have been made.

Very rare, I've never seen one in the flesh.

Unless you know, its a tricky business ensuring the dial is genuine.

I expect Rolex thought the 3,6,9 cut too much into the Explorer 1016 design and stopped making the 3,6,9 Submariner after a very short period of release.

I mean if you had a 3,6,9 Submariner would you ever want or need a 3,6,9 Explorer 1016....????

ill shout next time I'm in town Steve and you can play with a few.

the 369 dial was a weird thing made. and sold only really in the UK market so probably commissioned by Rolex UK. Made in small batches there are about 8 different versions of it know in very small numbers of each.

they divide roughly into two equal groups of type , one group is less valuable partly because there are more of them but also as it belongs to the group of dials that were made in period that tend to 'pimple' ...the gloss coat breaks down and is less attractive the eye.

the other group is known in smaller numbers , but survives generally with a much. nicer glossier dial and tends to be a LOT more expensive ...but again overall value is all about dial condition for any of them.

the one at GH is real ...the only issue is categorising its condition and grading it.

The dot dot has its followers and those that it doesn't appeal to, the gloss coat is usually superb , but the lume application isn't the most attractive and to some that don't really know the subject it looks redone (it isn't) as its quite heavily applied..... here's an original family owner one that I found here in Melbourne..originally bought in UK by a merchant navy man on its travels it ended up here with his son.

Wow, brilliant information for you Jed Your knowledge of and access to vintage pieces never fail to astound me.

I love that photo too, and again a killer watch. Those thickly lumed arabics are so alluring to the eye. Such a glorious dial, definitely an iconic vintage Rolex.

Looking forward to catching up one of these days when we have a little freedom to move about

The GH. 369 is owned by a guy called Joe . He put it up on Facebook in February this year , Loads off advice suggesting it was fake etc Dealers trying to buy it .

I am just glad he took the advice and brought it to Auction let’s hope it finds it’s true value although it’s worth only what some one will pay on the day
