16610 Submariner Date Wheel

Hi All,

I bought this sub about a year ago from a reputable dealer, it came with service papers but no original papers. I just noticed recently I have a square dot on my 10 in the date wheel. It's a perfect square and not a blemish. I can't find anything in search about this. I am wondering if its a service wheel or something. I am praying I don't have a fake. In the pic the square is a bit blurry but its shape in real life, I can't get a good close photo of it.

Haven't seen something like that before. If you bought it from a reputable dealers you should be fine, but may have to go to a watchmen and have it inspected if want to be 100% sure.

It looks ok other than that. How does it feel when you set it, wind it, change the date??

Looks good. Wrong bezel insert though. I'm guessing the square is some sort of debris that wants blowing off. Get it out of there.

May have been pieced together. The reputable deal may not have known. The bezel insert is 100% wrong for a "Swiss made" dial. That bezel has a tritium pearl, that dial is Super-Luminova. I would find a period correct insert & date wheel from the classified section here on TRF. ViperB typically has those parts.

Good luck!

Interesting, I wouldn't have caught the insert / dial thing - is it possible that it was serviced and the dial was replaced?

Thanks for all the replies. So with the pearl it has the same colour glow as the dial. Can someone explain to me why the bezel insert is wrong? This is a 2005 year sub by the way.

No because it has the late solid endlinks which correspond with a Swiss Made dial. Dealers may swap scratched inserts around for better conditioned ones.. Only for nutters like us to spot are older than the rest of the watch.

My 16800 has be serviced 2x in the 35 yrs of ownership. My date wheel was replaced (no charge) because the paint started to flake off. The insert has been replaced 2x, and I can guarantee that it is a newer insert since the originals are not still in stock. Enjoy the watch and don't get caught up in all the hype about museum originality.

Thanks, I am just wondering about the date wheel really with the perfect square under the 10.

Send it to the Rolex for service!
If it is a fake they will not touch it and will let you know. If it has wrong parts they will replace it with a correct parts and charge you for parts.
