Buying a watch to flip to get what you really want
Has anyone ever been offered a popular SS Rolex you didn't want from an AD, but instead of saying no thanks, you purchased it at MSRP to flip so you can buy the watch you really want on the grey market?

Nah.. just not into it. I make my money hustling in my own business. Watches are a pure reward and an invested hobby for me. That's my ADs biz, he helps me out when l want to make a move to sell or buy.

I was offered both the Polar 42 and 114060 while I was waiting for the BLNR. I accepted both and wouldn’t consider flipping either. Neither of those is/was “hot,” so it’s not like I had a white dial DaytonaC, but technically I could flip them together for something. But I wouldn’t. At least I don’t think so.

Not Me. I know it is being done by a lot of people and that is helping keep the prices artificially inflated. IMHO

Flipper buys at MSRP from AD, sells to Grey dealer for x+, Grey dealer sells to secondary buyers for MSRP+X+X. Limited supply, sold to Grey dealers and resold at higher prices.

No, never. But I’ve thought of doing it many times. The problem is I’d have to flip 2-3 watches to profit enough to buy a grey market GMT II Pepsi. I wouldn’t feel comfortable selling 2-3 watches for fear of getting scammed. |

If you are really desperate like the farmers wants a wife then you can do that flipping game show otherwise just wait and show your face once in awhile and remind them about what you want then you'll get it eventually.

I’ve been offered several hot references since this craziness started back in 2017. Always turned down what wasn’t on my hit list (mostly not Rolex) in fear of it ruining my hobby. Like others have said, work a little smarter/harder or save longer.

You live in a capitalist society. You don't need any affirmation from anyone on here to get what you want. Everyone has different moral compasses.
I have not been in that position and the watches i have i bought to wear regardless of their market value. But I can't honestly say that i wouldn't take a hot SS if offered to me. Lets be honest...most would. What I don't get is why some people make posts like these. Just do whatever you want. The Forum is getting more and more jam-packed with these kind of posts where people are seeking some validation of some sort on whether to buy and flip a SS or whether to buy if we believe the watch will hold its value....urghhh. |

Ethical attitude, and someone who really wanted it badly (let's hope) benefited.
A delicious cold beer to you, sir.

I hear your point but it’s an open market. Supply and demand dictate prices. If there was more supply overall, greys wouldn’t be able to charge what they are now. Couple this with a world where there’s increased amount of qualified buyers and you get the perfect storm.
