Most underrated watch?

I imagine it’s not a new thread. But I was unable to find.

With all the various hubbub these days, I’m busy enjoying the watches I have. Ive thought quite a bit about moving a few to free up funds for something else. But I know if I got anything new, I’ll be right back here in the near future after the thrill of the hunt dies off.

Anyway, I put on my Seamaster and realized again how awesome it is. In many ways, it has the traits of a Rolex that I like so much. Durable, good looking, good lume, smooth timing bezel and a nice bracelet.

It feels to me that this watch is vastly underrated. It does so much and is so nice. AND it’s relatively cheap all things considered.

Curious what watches you guys might think are underrated. Pictures are always appreciated.

I agree that your Seamaster is underrated.
So is mine.
I really like the blue dial and the ceramic bezel.

The Milgauss is definitely underrated. So is the Tudor BB with ETA.

Tom, I sold mine many years back and kicking myself big time. It was my very first Automatic. I saved and saved for that watch. I remember they day I got it. It was sometime in 2001.

Absolutely love that watch

Yes. Love this.

Truly, this is an unsung hero. The Seamaster does not get its due.

Aside from a battery change every 3-5 years (during which time you can get new seals and a pressure test), it's one of the lowest-maintenence and most accurate watches available. And likely no service required for decades. Mine is running -1 second after three months, or -4 secs/year, so I don't even need to set it between battery changes (which can be done at home if required, or at cost by Seiko).

A really good looking watch.

Do these have any lume? Water depth rating?

I’ll look it up myself shortly. But curious as to your thoughts on the whole line. I know they have a diver, but I’m wondering how it is across the board.

Btw, love the day date complication on it. That’s a really nice bonus.

Depth rating for most is 10bar/100m, except the divers, of course. No lume on the dress models. Yeah, the day/date function was what made me buy this one (in Hiroshima, it's not offered by US ADs I believe).

10 bar is plenty for me.

Even in a dress watch, I like Lume.

But it’s super hard to find. Even the DJ41 while it has lume, it’s weak, at best.

I think (starting to realize) I actually prefer the aesthetic of a dress watch, but I also really like some of the benefits if a sport watch.

Yep, that's the same depth rating as a rolex Explorer or GMT-Master or whatever, and without a screwdown crown.

It's the only modern watch I own with no lume, but it doesn't bother me as I've never needed it, and it adds to the minimalist dial design, anyway, IMO.

Danny. That’s a great pic. But I actually think that watch is not underrated. I think people finallyrealize it’s an awesome watch. It took a bit, but that tudor is imho getting its due credit. And is should. It’s fantastic.

I’d say that the black dial milgauss GV would be a top contender for an underrated watch. It’s highly versatile. From casual to semi formal to being in a shirt and tie...

Love that it’s not a screw down crown yet gets that rating.

A very nice minimalist design indeed. I’m a big fan.

That Jack Forster article I linked to above is really worth a read. Good luck

It looks like they are from the Grand Seiko website: https://www.grand-seiko.com/us-en/co...9F62+9F82+9F83

Mine is the SBGT235, which isn't shown there. Those seven watches in the link are the only GS quartz officially sold outside of Japan, as far as I know. There are around 25 available in the domestic Japanese catalog.

I would go so far as to say any Seiko not just the grands, I've had about 20, never been disappointed and those that I've flipped have sold for as much or more than I paid for them.
