Poker Chip Advice

Who here has purchased any poker chips? Right now I have a set of 11.5 gram Kings Casino chips. They are composite clay with a metal slab.

I’m thinking about upgrading to a set of Milano all clay chips. They’re of the “China Clay” variety. Basically a Chinese version of the Paulson Clay chips that casinos use. They’re pretty affordable but still worth making an educated decision over. I’d be buying about 1,000 chips. Mostly for tournament play.

I’m also considering the Majestic’s and the Pharaoh chips. All China Clays.

Anyone have any suggestions or experience with these?

Haha no. Just play with a group of neighbors once a month. It’s just that nothing beats the feel of casino chips!

I figured. I bought a set of 450 chips a few years ago. Since then, I sold them. Used for similar use—a weekly game with buddies. Can’t go wrong. I sold them for nearly the same price I paid for them after 3 years’ use.

I had the 10 gram Milano chips. I bought a combo of $25, $50, $100, $500, and $1000. They are heavy, feel great, and sound fantastic when you splash the pot!!!

Josh, I spent a lot of time looking for the right chips and ended up buying all clay. They are fantastic. One thing to remember when buying all clay is you want to make sure that the mold used has sharp fine detail. Otherwise they will look cheap. I ended up buying from Sidepot. They have a great selection of various kinds of chips and they will send you samples. I also have a bunch of different samples I can send you if you PM me. Here's their web page.

Thanks for the link. I hadn’t seen this brand before. They certainly look like they’re a step up from the China Clays that I’ve been looking at, both in quality and in price. I’ll have to check them out!

I bought a set of 1,000 chips back in the early 2000's when poker was the craze. They were ceramic, fully customized and cost me a $1 a chip. Now I feel like that was a big waste of money as I hardly play anymore. Still have them though and they are great quality.

Those chips look nice and if they are casino quality then you probably can't go wrong.

I’ve looked into ceramics. They are very nice. Different from the clay feel. But just as nice. Prices must have come down as it looks like a good ceramic chip now is now around $.50 or so.

I have this set of Tombstone ceramics and have been very pleased with them. Consistent color and not nearly as much flaking as a clay.

I went with the 1,000 chip Milano set.

I got

100 - $0.25
125 -$1
225 - $5
225 - $25
200 - $100
50 - $500
50 - $1000
25 - $5000

Should give me a good mix of cash game and tournament options.

Price was very cheap at $300 for the entire set.
