I sold off my Rolexs and now have a couple Tudors. I prefer a more casual look now that I’m retired. Tudor gives me piece of mind knowing I have a quality time piece and I like the styling much better than the Rolex.
And for your next Tudor.. a Heritage Chrono for sure

I would buy the Tudor bronze but I cannot stand those snowflake hands. I think it looks good and quality is good but those dang hands. If the hands were normal I would buy one.

Why even compare Tudor vs Rolex ?

Personally, I look at individual watches.
I look for watches I love, regardless of the brand.

There are some Tudors I prefer over the Rolex (especially considering the price)... and vice versa.
However, Rolex has a better overall finish... but Tudor seems more fun and laid back.

1st world problems

My 2 cents.

Hey buddy, a poor man’s version is a well known phrase. It’s not literal, well not in this case anyway. Both Rolex & Tudor are luxury watches. Did you even read my post in its entirety?
I’ve a poor man’s Ferrari, a 911 - doesn’t mean I’m poor.
And by the way, who mentioned buying new? The poor man could buy a new Tudor, but mostly have the sense to resist until they’re in a better place financially.
You have pretty much missed my point, also try not to make knee jerk reactions.

Tudor just does not sing to me, leading me to explore other brands but so far, none has gotten me excited enough to pull the trigger. The blue Seiko ceramic Marinemaster 300 is coming close though.

I like the tudors that are nothing like rolex, like the bronze. Rolex would never put out a piece like that so thank god for tudor.

I’ve been a fan of Tudor watches for decades
34mm - 38mm - 41mm

Since rolex made those 38mm oyster cases, I’ve always wondered why they didn’t release 38mm datejusts

I bought my Tudor gmt to tie me over until I scored a Pepsi. But I do get the feeling that I would miss my Tudor if I sold it. I like how toolish it feels, makes me feel very comfortable wearing it as a daily.

Love Rolex but this is why I like Tudor even more

You mean “rivet-look” not rivet bracelet on the Tudor GMT, right?

If I bought a Tudor, I’d always just wish I had waited and saved a bit more for the Rolex.

Let’s talk resale .... here the brands are not even close.

Movement - Rolex superior

Prestige - Rolex far more recognized

Weird models - Tudor wins here

Gold vs Gold fill - we all know the answer here - Rolex pure 18kt

Finish - Rolex way ahead

Btw. I do think the finish is superior in Rolex. But the Tudor gmt is overalll a fun watch and the best gmt you can get for the money at the moment. Would have loved a vintage Pepsi but the cheapest is twice the cost. IMG_0955.jpg

^^^^This

The Tudors I liked were the ones from the 70's with the Rolex case and Rolex hands but ETA movement as well as the ones where the band was integrated into the case and had stick hands. Even the versions with the "hollow" round hour hand never appealed to me.

Finish ? Rolex have dumped the bevels and gone for straight brushed finish so its easy to service ... to me that's a step backward ?

Weird models . . pearl master ? leopard print daytona ?

Prestige ? ... many of us are not bothered what others think

Movement ? ... probably right but not by a huge margin

resale ? ... maybe with SS sports but then the Tudor is so much less in the first place

I have several Rolexes and Tudors (36mm Subs, BBs in SS, gilt/Black and ss/blue). I agree, generally, about Tudor delivering quality goods. Personally, I have more fun wearing my Tudors because it’s not always about the best quality pieces (I even enjoy my micros at times). However, for the most part, the Rolexes are superior in craftsmanship. The quality is a wide enough gap. Having said that, I wouldn’t skimp on buying more Tudors just because there are Rolexes out there. The same argument could be made for buying a Lange or Patek just because of their craftsmanship superiority over Rolex. Does that mean one is always buying Lange and Patek, even their few sport models, and never buying a Rolex? Of course not! You buy what you like.

Go for a SS 3-hand or chrono or an Advisor, which gets little love these days. A mechanical alarm is a pretty cool and often overlooked complication.

Rolex is a totally different watch. In the end I buy what I like and can afford.

Once you stop believing the hype it makes sence , my latest piece is the black bay black ( im late to the party) from the moment i walked in to the AD haggled (10%) had it sized and walked out with it on my wrist this was a great feeling no BS list. This watch has stayed on the wrist its just so easy to wear . Time keeping is as good , the dial is so easy to read with instant time no text or cyclops grabbing attention . The bezel is a nice width not to wide , the bracelet is so comfortable even with out any easylink or glidlock. i would put this on par with a sub no date.

Relatively new to Rolex and Tudor, and never understood the distain some have for Tudor.

Tudor seems to make good watches. Would love to own a modern remake of the blue Snowflake if Tudor ever makes one:

The blue Pelagos is great but too big for my wrists. If they made a 39mm then I’d jump all over it!

I have said it before Tudor makes a good product and I am glad I got over it being a “cheap Rolex”. I would buy the bronze or Pepsi GMT. My only gripe which is why I will never own one I flat out hate the snowflake hands. Put a set of normal hands on and I would buy one of those two models.

I'm late to the party too but have a BB black and the sub C no date. Love them both. Tudor a bit more "fun" or relaxed IMO but I just enjoy them for what they are.

I’ll say I’m happy both companies exist, and I own several from each.

25+ years ago Tudor truly was a poor man’s Rolex; the designs were near identical (often featuring Rolex cases/crowns) but cheaper, mass produced ETA movements were used to keep prices down. Those same watches have skyrocketed recently (e.g. the old snowflakes, etc.), so pretty much nothing is a poor man’s anything these days, haha.

The modern “heritage” Tudors are meant to harken back to the now-vintage pieces. Compare a Tudor Black Bay to a Rolex 5513 and the Tudor is objectively a “better” watch (duh, because it’s modern). The 5513 is vintage unobtanium so using market price isn’t fair, but watch collecting defies logic (which is why it’s so fun!).

The Pelagos is an incredible piece, but much like the Black Bay, the cases are just too tall to claim the watch is “perfect”. I’ve owned a BB black and a BBGMT and sold both, because they’re just not comfortable. The Tudor bracelets also dig into my wrist (after moving a link to the 12 o’clock side I fixed that issue, but still, the stepped pointy underside of the clasp seems like a poor design decision). The BB58 may have solved a lot of this, but I don’t own one yet. Finally, the rivet bracelet does not improve functionality in any way, nor does the fauxtina. Again, they’re trying to be modern vintage, which is cool, but targeting a different customer than the SubC guy.

With all that said, you’d be hard pressed to find a watch that provides better value than a Tudor. The designs just haven’t gone through the same decades of refinement that Rolex has, and they’re trying to cover different pricing segments.

My opinions are based on my time spent working at a Tudor AD and owning the following:
Rolex: 116710BLNR, 116622(DR), 214270 (incoming), 114300(W), 16570(Polar), 16610(sold)

Tudor: 2 x 76100, 79180, 79270, 7017/0, 94614, 76214, BBB (sold), BBGMT (sold)

I’m excited to see what the future holds for both of them and I’m sure my collection will continue to grow (and my bank account shrink, haha) with pieces from each brand.

Cheers!
