I think you (OP) did well on this deal, depending on tax in your state.

ADs seem to be moving away from discounts on PM, and around SoCal, if you want a Daytona or BLRO, you need to bundle PM at full retail, which I have personally turned down.

If you want the DD, great.

You did great (obviously) on the Daytona, especially white dial.

You aren’t losing anything on the CHNR. As a matter of fact, you might get someone to trade you the CHNR for a new BLRO if you want one.

You bought watches you don’t want to wear so you can flip for a watch you do want?? So your full intent was to flip some of these watches at the time of purchase???

Do the Daytona and GMT have scratches on the side of the case now because of touching the crown when you took the picture?

Are you driving the car while taking this picture? Looks like someone steadying the wheel. What is that a Malibu or Camry?

Great deal in the current environment! Better than me in a large city. Multiple large purchases and not a SS Daytona in sight!

So much negativity. I'm not sure if people have trouble with reading comprehension or basic math.

The typical negative response to bundling is that you were forced to buy something you don't want to get something you do want. But OP wanted the DD, which he got at right around DSW's price. And he got the DayC he wanted at MSRP (1/2 of gray price). And the CHNR he can likely flip for the MSRP that he paid.

How on earth could the AD be upset if they package $60k worth of three watches and one gets flipped? AD got OP to do his work for him (sell off watches) and AD sold 3 watches with little effort. That's what I call a win-win.

Retail is the best deal nowadays. Good job and Congrats

Yeah sure it’s a good deal. But your math only works if you either sell the daytona for a huge profit or you’re able to get out of the DD for a profit which is questionable. Otherwise you’re just stuck with a watch you don’t want. But at the end of the day I think you did just fine.

I'm not sure luck has much to do with what you experienced at your AD, but congrats nonetheless!

Unless I'm misunderstanding what happened here..

You aren’t. OP wound up with two pieces he actually wanted. Best part appears to be the “all at once” nature of the transaction. Versus spend big $ on the chance of getting the Daytona later.

Posters hating on this appear to have nothing but SS on the brain as well as a “if I have $10k, I should be able to walk in and get what I want” mindset.

Good. Can you remind everyone that you wanted the DD? I think there is a reading comprehension problem here...

You did great OP. I can't believe some of the responses on here. Lots of keyboard warriors who I assume would break eye contact and tear up instead of speaking to another man the way they do here.

You landed 2 watches at retail and another that you wanted under. I'd say that's a great AD visit.

+1

I think some people are bitter that there are those out there that encourage this AD practice, but as they say, money talks, B.S. walks. If you're smart and do your homework, the calculus on these deals can work out quite well.

I have no problems with the practice, but would prefer not to deal with an AD that does this all the time.

Bottom line, the OP got a decent deal on the DD40 by paying a few thousand more than a grey, but got a SS 116500 at MSRP. That's thousands saved right there. Now, if he didn't actually want the DD then it might have been a losing deal, or breakeven, but if he wanted both then it was win-win. Plus he gets the PV of future SS pieces at MSRP.

I’m not being negative but this AD just turned the OP into a grey dealer overnight!

MSRP of those watches is 64000. It seems OP got a decent deal. I imagine this is what Grey dealers do.

Only way I was getting that Daytona without waiting. Walked in the ad and I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. He had several clients for the Daytona and I needed to put a little pressure on him and I’m hoping to get other sought after pieces. Perhaps it was an investment.

And you selected the best dial on the DD!

OP, I commend you for thinking outside the box in getting what you want but I highly recommend that you take a few minutes and contribute a small donation to the site to become a pledge member. Talking about selling watches while not being a pledge member is against forum rules and a sure set way to have your threads deleted by a mod or possibly become banned from the site.
