Incoming SD4k

I've wanted one of these for a long time. Passed on one still stickered at $10k a year ago. Boy was that stupid.

However, it hasn't really blown me away like I was expecting.

Pics compared to my 114060

I think it looks great! Maybe it will take some time to bond. Otherwise I’m sure it’s easy to move. Nice collection!

It’s a great watch... although I sold mine though a bit ago. Sort of underwhelming. I guess the “purists” love it for all the stated reasons, but’s only been a hot piece since it’s been discoed. With its increased value I’d decided to sell it.

It flopped because it was something like 3k GBP more than a new ceramic sub

Looked almost the same, in fact in peoples eyes, inferior, due to the thinner lugs, was less "chunky" on the wrist and the dial was flat matte

So back when it was about in store windows was less "blingy" and shiny, and a lot more expensive.

Justifications aside (which is why you may not be bonding with it) - its the best modern diver Rolex ever made.

Gorgeous flat dial, perfect tapered lugs, case size and bevelling on the bezel.

The differences are subtle...

the Matte dial in certain lighting or angles.

The helium valve, for diving is cool

Divers extension of you need it over your suit

Tapered lugs...!

Date window

No cyclops

Raised crystal like DAytona

All the tick marks on bezel

And it’s raised off the wrist a bit more to evacuate water more efficiently

And the prestige

Am I missing anything?

Yup. A sense of understanding

Looks good! But at the end of the day you really should love it. I'd sell if it doesn't start to grow on you...

The Sea Dweller looks much better than the boxy looking Sub.

Looking at the sd4k pic above it looks like they have taken more off the crown guard length too, not just the lugs.

I purchased mine a few years ago and, like you, I was a bit underwhelmed. Now, it’s one of my favorites. Give it time and you’ll find it really does tick all the boxes!

Keep it for a while and see if you bond with it. The Sub you have is very similar, and if you can live with fat lugs I wouldn’t keep both in a collection.

For me there is no other diver I’d rather want but it’s not always that I love it due to its thickness. I’ve now accepted it and know when I can wear it and not.

I think it looks much better on you than the ceramic sub....but you know like my wife says...99% of people won't be able to tell the difference and if that's what you were going for....maybe it's the wrong watch. But people who appreciate the "not so subtle" WIS differences that are a fan of the sd4k....it's truly a killer watch. I still think it's Rolex's finest effort in terms of a modern diver.

Congrats! It’s my all-time favorite watch. Even with that bias, if you give it some time and don’t love it, maybe you’ll want to move it along. Good problem to have, comparing that to a sub, excellent watches both.

My favorite Diver by far, great pick up. I really wish they did not discontinue these, they were perfect.

Congratulations, it looks great on you.
I have the Sub C, and have spent a lot of time thinking about a 116600. The current prices are the only thing that makes me hesitate.
It is a fantastic watch and as a lot say, probably Rolex’s finest diver.
Wear it a lot, try and appreciate the subtle features that make it stand apart, and hopefully it will grow on you.
Good luck.

I moved mine on when I picked up my SD43. The SD4K didn’t light my fire and seemed a bit dull beside the 50th Anniversary with the red lettering.

I've had mine since 2014. Love it. It is not going anywhere. I don't own a single max-case Sub.
