It’s always easy to second guess and comment after the fact, but if they have spent this long in development, then for sure a part of that should have been consumer testing of some form or another, so presumably positive and negative reactions have been taken into account.
I’d hazard a guess that such an idyllic notion doesn’t exist within the watch industry, and probably never will.
I’m not sure how the likes could be implemented — who’re going to be the arbiters of good taste? What would be the qualifications for being chosen?

Never uderestimate arrogance/strength of one’s convictions from those sitting round the boardroom table that they know best... just think back to the Zenith CEO at the time, and the Defy range, which was his baby, iirc.

It appears someone tapped a keg of Hateraid.

I think they’re great. Chrono looks better than anything on the market right now. Can’t wait to see them in person.

Oh, and you can actually buy them next month. So there’s that.

I think we shouldn't justify bad design if it's bad design. Photo or real life, a watch design should be pleasing to the eye however you look at it. The case is beautiful, and the face of the watch is the really off-putting part. You make a case that is very technical to produce, and yet the wearer doesn't see that intricacy and the angles when looking at the time. All they see is a round shape. It's neither form over function, nor function over form, it's a design flaw. It's a waste of hard work. I'm surprised they didn't catch this during the design process. Granted this line is new, so there is still time to turn things around.
Hmm...I guess time will tell. If this becomes a big hit, then I am sure FHP can claim the credit of being a visionary that went against the trend and inside the box thinking. If it flops then it further illustrate the ego and do as I say type of thinking within corporation. I guess everyone wants to be the next Steve Jobs when they are in charge of a company and this is probably no different.

St Dupont out innovated and beat AP to the punch with the "openworked" lugs & curved sapphire ... at 1/20 of the price

I just asked my coworkers who are not WIS and they all prefer this line over the Royal Oak line. Of course they would prefer this even more if it had bracelet. I found that to be an interesting comment. Maybe the new line is not for people who are so used to people like us who are Royal Oak = AP.

It takes time for something to become iconic.

Apparently the new movements cannot be fitted in smaller diameter and slimmer cases.

The question that really bugs me, why didn't they keep the hexagon design of the case exposed instead of hiding in the upper/lower ring sandwich? IMHO would have been more iconic design that resembles what make the royal oak iconic and at the same time be a different design. There is no harm to have design synergies between different products to ensure common DNA...

The chrono version is growing on me. All my watches are chronos as I hate big vacant dials, so the non-chrono would never be a player.

It will depend upon reaction upon seeing it first hand. As mentioned elsewhere, I suspect with the radiused crystal the dial may really pop. My Omega Sea Master Planet Ocean is like that and the dial is truly amazing, apprears ultra sharp and really zings, more than any AP. The Omega also has applied 3D gold lettering and logo, which look incredible and adds a lot visually.

However, I just wish AP had produced an integrated case to strap, as I hate big unsightly voids and gaps. In truth I don't get why so much effort is put into designing the case and then the case/strap interface is ignored. I know others will disagree, but I think it would be much nicer if the strap was more integrated, even if it was simply radiusing the springbar and strap end to close the gaps. This may sound nit-picking but its a big visual issue for me.

Sell off this rubbish collection and get back to being AP. This will be a cool conversation in 10 years.

the interview makes sense now... the 19 year old likes it because it matches the rest of his collection. Makes for a seamless rotation.

i still kind of like it though, seriously

in hindsight I think I can't judge until I see it IRL, however I want to add the dial especially the FONT is what puts me off.
I'm pretty sure the detail and finish would be legit

Just went to the site to look at it again, nope, same response from me. There is no chance the folks in back making these things were saying to themselves, "geesh, I gotta get one". It looks like Michael Kors watch..... absolutely awful.

I've actually warmed to it apart from the dial. The case and sapphire look great to me but the dial just does not look high end enough.

I really dislike whenever a dial has the date window at 4-5 o'clock, it looks like such a slapped on afterthought.

I think the case design and the how they curved the glass is neat
