Personally I love both.
The vintage feeling of the 4 digits is something very special to me but I like to enjoy a beautiful 6 digits as a daily.
In terms of proportions, I love them all for what they offer, the 5 digits being the more discreet of the 3 IMHO.
Today’s wear: a beautiful 116710LN on a rubber strap.

I agree. But the maxi effect is emphasized on the pasty “slender” wrist of an office diver. Especially if the lugs extend to/over the edge of the wrist. Sorry peeps, no matter how much you love it, that watch is just too big for you...

^^^ This is true. If the big case was as well proportioned as the new GT, this would not be an issue.

However the big case is clunky, over-proportioned not well proportioned.

I have big wrists, still prefer the thinner case.

I have 7.5” wrists and very large forearms, so anything less than a 44mm looks disproportionately small and out of place. A 40mm just looks like a toy, although I’ll agree I love how they look. In the end I opted for the 126660 and couldn’t be happier; so much more refined than my 47mm Panerai 305..

Interesting take. would definitely disagree however, the modern dj, especially the 41 just looks fake to me. But I guess they fit their role better as a somewhat flashy accessory

That took a while.

And sometimes I just like the feeling of a "new" watch. You can love old and new. It's not one or the other.

Same way I love classic Mustangs, but I have no problem driving a new GT350.

I’m thinking of doing a “Jocke” and putting a maxi dial in a classic case. Best of both worlds...

No Photoshop needed. That watch is obtainable. 16610 LV with black insert. I owned one for awhile.

I'd say for every day you need a 6 digits than can be destroyed and with which you can swim...We all prefer the smaller cases of the 4/5 digits but for example to crown guards of a 114060 and & 5513 have more or less the same aesthetic, just bigger...I've just realised now that on top of these two and also have a 1675 that the case and crown guards are very different between 5513 and 1675...

It’s much easier getting used to the maxi case if you don’t compare them. They are both uniquely different yet share DNA. I really enjoy my 114060. To me it’s the evolved 5512

Kind of preaching to the choir in this sub forum. To me, the proportions and overall aesthetic of four and five digit references are preferred. That said, seeing them in the metal, the size difference is not as pronounced as it is in all the macros you see here on TRF. They sure do seem quite a bit more shiny, though.

I wear 4, 5 and 6 digits and enjoy them all. My favorites will always be the 4’s but the newer stuff do have a lot to offer.

I have a smaller wrist and prefer the 5 digit cases for that reason and aesthetically as well. However, sometimes I yearn for the more modern bomb proof look and build quality of the 6 digits... Thankfully my wrist can’t handle them, so my wallet is a little thicker.

Personally, what I do not like about a newer Rolex is the way the indices are framed in white gold, this gives the dial an unnecessary complexity. This is not only contemporary models but goes back many years. Look at a 1016 then a 14270/114270/214270. Why make the dials so busy?

Too many "busy dials" everywhere from so many manufacturers. Jeez, stop putting all the specifications on the dials already!

New ones are much better watches with much better bracelets. BUT...

the older one is like a beautiful, slim mistress with a LOT of "history" and some annoying "issues". The new one is like a fat, good and sensible wife who cooks good food. Seriously, it's not even funny how much better the old one looks.
