Need advice on Moon Watch
I don’t post often, usually lurk on the Rolex side. Anyway who I was in my early twenties (30yrs ago) I had an Omega Moon Watch. I remember a poly crystal, and it being a cool lil watch. I want to replace it. I bought it used at the time, so I’m thinking it was a 70’s-80’s vintage. So where I need your help, is finding something analogous. The Moon Watches all look the same to me. Help a brother out….
Cheers, Jim

They still make an "original" version with the poly crystal if you are looking for a facsimile of the original Moon watch as well as a shit ton of different versions.

I gotcha Jim. Here's the model on Omega's site. It's the Speedmaster Professional. It's pretty much the same watch you wore back then; hand-wound, plastic crystal and all. Omega has recently improved the movement with a few strategically placed modern bits, but it's still the real deal.

Is the new one still actually qualified for manned flight? The wording on the back is somewhat ambiguous.

I don’t see an ambiguity...qualified in 1965...nothing has changed.

I think when the 3861 first came out, Omega put the Speedmaster through the NASA tests to be qualified but the watch was never actually tested by NASA to be officially certified. Not sure if that's still the case today though. The prior generations, the 321, 861, and 1861, all were officially qualified. |
