Adding a Speedmaster

Mostly a Rolex guy but I have a few Omega pieces in the collection, including a Speedmaster Moonphase which I love. I do want to eventually add a classic modern Speedmaster (sapphire, Hesalite feels cheap).

MSRP has shot up in the last few years and I don't feel like I want to pay that. What are discounts like on Omegas these days from an AD? What about going secondary/used for pieces like this, can you get a good deal? How much would you guys expect to get in a good private sale? I'm willing to wait so if the watch market keeps cooling down I might pounce.

I purchased a speedmaster from boutique at list price years ago when they were trading 2k below retail at grey. That purchase history landed me a snoopy last year.

I'm honestly not going to be going after the Snoopy or other coveted Omegas. This would likely be my last and I have good purchase history already with my Rolex AD.

Prices have bounced up on new Speedmasters. I would look at our Trusted Sellers and save some cash on the model you want. Remember asking price and getting price are two different things. Find the watch on the TS website and get on the phone and negotiate. Good luck.

I would like to see the prices in the grocery store continue to cool down.

Personally would just buy it at a boutique. They really all that expensive to begin with and I’d rather buy brand new with full warranty etc. YMMV

Good luck

Don't buy from a boutique. You leave 20% on the table. Omega depreciate like Panerai.

Generally my AD will give 15% discount. Nothing at a boutique except maybe tax

My sense is ADs are probably dealing a bit on the watch you're looking for. My guess is 10-20% from cooperative ADs (I would talk to Topper and Radcliffe), and something in that same range (new with validated factory card) from some trusted sellers (such as watchexchangecompany).

Demand for a Sapphire Sandwich seems a bit higher, so that could affect willingness to deal.

Unfortunately, my AD has never heard of a discount. But can get some good deals preowned just down the street. But when it's a keeper I buy from a AD regardless.
