Sanguine Incoming

Hi all. I've been quite busy so this is a bit of a delayed incoming. For you folks that haven't followed my journey - I've been aspiring towards AP since 2013, and the Royal Oak is what got me into watches. I was in law school at the time, and remember stopping by an AD at King of Prussia mall. The display cases were full; I tried on a Kasparov and immediately fell in love. Unfortunately, I wasn't in a position to purchase back then, but it's always been a goal of mine to build a collection.

Fast forward to 2020 - I have a few Rolexes, VCs, among others. But I wanted ROs more than anything else. A forum member here (and boutique customer) was generous enough to make an intro to his SA. We hit it off, and it sounded like I would get the silver 15500ST in due time. However, after regular check-ins, texts, etc.(all of which were pleasant), we didn't get anywhere. And 3 years later, the SA began steering me towards other pieces that I never indicated interest in.

So after some milestones, I decided to pull the trigger on the 15500ST at resale, and couldn't be happier with the piece! It's barely left my wrist since.

Since I just moved cities, I decided to pop into my now local boutique to get the piece sized. We had a great conversation with the SA and the tech. They were both extremely kind, genuine, and good people. We talked personal backgrounds, AP heritage/history, movement specifics, and collecting in general. I noted my journey with the previous boutique, and how I hoped to build a collection with the boutique, not via grey. I wear my watches, and plan to pass them all to my children one day. The SA was empathetic that I was an enthusiast and wasn't able to get even 1 piece I wanted. He noted that I shouldn't be buying pieces I don't want, in hopes to get allocated pieces that I do want. So I officially switched SAs, and am hoping to get allocated a piece on my list.

I texted my SA several days later to thank him for the hospitality... and he never responded. Weird since we really hit it off. Still optimistic that it'll work out this time. I'll stop by in the next couple months, and hopefully that'll get the ball rolling. I love the AP brand more than any other, and it's been a bit sad that once I'm finally in position to be a customer, I can't get my foot in the door.

I'm loving this 15500 for now, and can't wait for the next one! I’m thankful I and happy for what I have, but am already enthused about the next piece. Hopefully there is good fortune in my future :)

Good luck. Now that you have a 15500, what would you like next? And are there any APs you like that are not ROs?

Well done brother!!

Happy for you. Now you can send me yours to try out before I make the switch to AP See my last thread....

And if I do I will have to go the same route, Closet AP Boutique is damn near 400 miles away. I thinking RG. 26240OR or 15500OR

Granted the 38 in the chrono might be a winner. I'm wearing my 326935 and I "think" I can pull off a 41. Dont know. Like I said I Need one to try on. Want my address?

Congrats, looks great!

Now you can enjoy the watch you've always wanted without wondering if it will ever come. I always think the best way to think about these unnecessary and expensive things is "Once the price point in the market matches your desire and ability to own it, just buy it and look forwards!"

Thank you! Would really like a 26240 as I don’t have any chronos in my collection, and it was the first Royal Oak that really sparked this whole thing for me. I’m not set on the offshores, though I do appreciate them.

Thank you! Believe it or not my wrist is just 16.5cm. But I have a flat wrist and bigger build, so this makes a 41 totally wearable.

Haha! If you have the patience, try going the route of some users here who called boutiques and expressed interest, saying that you don’t have a boutique nearby. It might be a long shot, but worth a try IMO. What’s your wrist size and what other watches do you have?

Well said! It’s not about the price for me…just really want to buy watches I want from a boutique.

You really need to try on the 41mm chronos in person. With the new caliber, those wear huge. I tried at first a friend’s old 41mm which preceded the current model, and quite liked it. However, the change from the 1185 FP caliber gives the watch a massive bump - I was not really sure when trying it on in the boutique whether I wore the watch, or it wore me :-)

Thanks huncho! It’s about time means a lot coming from you, I know you’ve been following my journey from the beginning.

Hoping the new relationship at the boutique will be fruitful
