Information related to 26240 is so scarce

Hello everyone, despite being released a while ago, 26240 has so few threads, online reviews or even videos, that I wonder why that’s the case?

Besides a few incoming post here and there, I’ve yet to see much discussions among owners or enjoyers.

My understanding is that despite some improvements, people don’t really enjoy the 41mm size of it and its caliber?

Curious to discuss with owners or fans, what’s your take on this model?

I'm sure they are there, just buried.

For me...
1. Movement has been unlucky for me. Two models with same movement sent back for warranty work on the chrono mechanism and time keeping.
2. Too thick for me personally. Also slightly miss the AP logo
3. I do however like the uniform sub dials...so...nothing perfect.

Interesting. I will monitor caliber issues on mine then. What were the signs if I can ask?

Oh mine were fairly obvious. Again, I assume simply bad luck since no one else I know had any problems.

One had an issue where the chrono minute timer would advance when chrono was not engaged.

Another couldn't hold a power reserve and was running fast as well. Both came back fixed very quickly. But you know, never had these types of issue with bullet proof rolex, and generally haven't had any issue with the old FP modular chrono or time only RO's,etc.

Eh?

Any context to those comments?

My 26240 is just dandy and you just cannot compare it to a 15510 (or 15500 that I have as well) as they’re very different watches.

I love mine, for a few reasons:

1) Size, to me, is perfect - from the dial size, to the lugs, to the thickness (yes it’s thicker than the 3h versions but I prefer my watches a bit top heavy and I find it wears better on me).

2) Love that the subdial color matches the dial color, with the subdial rings adding a bit of contrast with the different finish. Also love the uniformly-sized subdials, and the fact that the date window is now perfectly-centered at 4:30.

3) I like that the pushers are more spaced out now, feels better-balanced visually to me.

4) I like the new galvanic growth logo - yes the old AP logo was nice of course, but the simplicity of just having Audemars Piguet on the dial balanced by the 3 subdials just works well for me.

5) Accuracy - my 26240 has been crazy accurate, +1-1.5 sec/day consistently.

6) Flyback chrono is super convenient, and the pushers feel so nice to press.

7) Open caseback is a winner, love having that on the latest generation of chronos!

I love mine...I don't have a YouTube channel if that's what you meant. I don't think many who get these have one or care to. There are a lot of AP references that don't seem to have much online presence. It seems AP doesn't really loan out press models either.

If I had one thing to nitpick, I wish the bracelet was a touch thicker to balance out the case heft. The bracelet is very svelte, to some this is probably a highlight though. I think all the other new design details are spot on and I've had zero issues with time keeping or functionality.

As someone who just got a 26240ST last month, I agree that there's less activity online regarding this model. However, I think that has to do with AP in general, given its price point and how few there are out in the wild of each model reference. I love it and think it's one of the best chronographs ever made. It just looks and feels like a million bucks, and oozes quality, like a meticulous utensil.

Love mine. I received my 50th anniversary silver dial 26240 in Sept and then acquired a blue 15510 in Feb.
It is thicker but not significantly. In this regard I do prefer the 15510.
Often when I’m wearing my 15510 I feel myself reaching for the Chrono (not because I particularly need it but it can be fun to use just because you have it).
I disagree it’s too big - but if you have smaller wrists then the 26240 will be just as big as the 15510; the 2mm difference in thickness, while present, is not a deal breaker for most.

Only complaints i have with 26240 is thickness. Otherwise between 15510 or Rolex Daytona or 26250, Will pick 26250 on 6.75 wrist.

I enjoy my 26240 as much as my 15500. IMO the 26240 fills the dial and case size much better than the 15510. I opted for the 15500 because I think the seconds ring and the AP logo fills the dial much better.

I do prefer PM so I wear the 15500 much more. If I had the 26240OR, I’d be rocking it full time. As for fit, both extremely comfortable on my 6.75 in wrist.

Thanks everyone for chiming in.

The pictures are great! Especially the silver dial as it’s the one I have, and I don’t see it often online.

Thickness is an issue indeed, and we would be wrong to say it was a design made out of love and not compromise/profitability.

But at the same time I think the ROC historically have a great presence. To me they nailed the pushers and just like with a Daytona, it’s a chronograph without any equal design wise. When I learned you could actually screw the pushers, I was sold.

I think the price is an issue for this piece. 37k euro for an steel chrono is quitte steep. Add the fact that the movement is not AP's most reliable and you know why you see them less in the wild.

Aquanaut flyback chrono is $55k, VC overseas chrono is $36k, so the price is where one would expect or lower.

But in any case, AP easily sells every ROC they make, so I don't see the connection between price and seeing them less (which also is not exactly an established fact vs any of the comparable watches).

I remember when my first ROC ‘only’ cost 24k USD…lol.

But seriously, in the non watch world, most of my high income friends wouldn’t bat an eye spending 20k on family vacation but question the sanity of a 2k watch.
