Thoughts on 15510OR?

Hello everyone,
I am mostly a Rolex collector with currently a Hulk, BLNR, OP36 turquoise, Chnr, DaytonaC black.
Since last year I am on a waiting list for a few APs, a couple of days ago the SA told me that my first watch could be a ROC khaki in steel or a 15510OR in blue. I could not find many threads or pictures concerning this latter watch in the forum or online, what do you think about it? Would it be a good relationship starter? Could you share some pictures?
Thank you very much in advance for your replies and have a wonderful day!

Well consider yourself very lucky to be in such a situation.
I have the same ROC and it's absolutely fantastic watch.
However, AP RG is a different thing, especially with the blue dial.
Is the RO on a full bracelet?
One other thing to consider is that 15510 wears smaller than 26240 even if both are 41mm.
Considering your collection and the fact that you already have a chrono, I'd go for the 15510OR if on full bracelet.

Thanks very much for your reply! Yes, it would be rose gold blue dial on full gold bracelet. They didn’t have it in store to try it on but they had the version on strap and indeed the rose gold with blue is stunning. It wears smaller than the Chrono24 but I have average wrist so it fits me nicely.

Well, as I wrote initially, consider yourself very lucky to be offered a choice between these two as first AP.
I know which one I will choose, as I already have the ROC. :)

In this thread you can see a photo of the 15510OR.

And if you look through the forum, there have been several incoming threads of the 26240st khaki last year, in case you want to look at photos.

Let us know once you make your choice and hopefully there will be an incoming post from you later on.

Thanks again for the infos, the SA said he’s limited visibility on the pieces he will receive as they are only informed one day in advance about what’s being delivered but he was positive that one of the two watches should arrive this year, fingers crossed and I’ll keep you posted;)

Hello everyone,
Just an update regarding the 15510OR (blue dial). Just received the call that they will receive the watch tomorrow and it is mine if I still want it. It would be my first AP, first full gold piece and by far the most expensive watch after several steel Rolexes. I guess it would be a good piece to start my journey with AP, what do you reckon?

As others have rightly said you have been offered some truly exceptional AP's as your entry into the brand.

They must really like you or you're amzingly lucky

Amazing first watch but I would have started off with the roc green dial.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I was not aware that the full gold 15510 was such a difficult piece to get. Honestly I would have liked to start with the ROC as a first watch but at this point declining would maybe not be the wisest thing to do… More experienced forum members might confirm? The SA mentioned that I will eventually get both watches and later, as a third/fourth, the Jumbo

It is absolutely epic… just go and see it. I will be very surprised if you do not wish to purchase it.

Ha - I personally do not care about my ability to get more watches from AP now I have the 15510OR as I am fully satisfied by this watch! But yes - I would agree it is a good purchase to show you are a serious buyer and collector, if that’s your thing.

If you get a Jumbo as your 3rd/4th allocation I’ll blow a gasket

Would that be so outrageous as a 3rd/4th? Thought that was fairly typical

With 50k watches per year and only 1700 Jumbos it’s mathematically impossible for the typical buyer to get a Jumbo as third or fourth watch.

Definitely a fantastic spot to be in! Both are extremely difficult (especially as a first watch) from my understanding - can’t really go wrong with either of them! I do quite enjoy my ROC; between those two specific color combinations, I would go with the 15510or with blue dial (the khaki green dial on the ROC is lovely, but I would have a lot of difficulty matching green with anything I wear - whereas midnight blue matches with my wardrobe and color palette more)!

I received my 15500 OR last week, was on my wrist for the last 6 days... I have the strap (rubber) version, seeing a full rose gold was not on my 'Wishlist', and I'm too young to wear a full gold watch, doesn't really suit my style.

Why the OR and not the steel version? The contrast of the rose gold, black dial, and black strap just pops out. I wanted a watch that I would wear daily, and something I really want to enjoy. The heft of the gold version is also nice, feels more 'prestige' than the steel version, even when it's on strap. The case just looks sharper in rose gold than steel.

My next RO will be a steel version. My SA showed my one RO with a light blue dial in 41mm (not yet on AP's website), that might be my next watch, or the jumbo. I do have the feeling that AP likes me. I get a long with most of their staff... Some of them saw me in the news and congratulated me. I don't have the feeling that Jumbo's are reserved for APs top clients.

It'll vary from country to country and there's unlikely to be any kind of definitive equation for when a Jumbo can be allocated.......so it's more like a combination of patience, relationship building and some luck too.

I’ve seen people who couldn’t get Jumbo even as their 6th piece but others as their 2nd/3rd piece. Depends how strong your relationship is with AP (mainly your SA and the boutique/house manager) and whether you spend the time to get to know everyone there, attend events like the watchmaking classes etc.

The OP is extremely lucky to be offered these as 1st purchases but I think sometimes the customer is being tested to see if they’re the real deal. Recently a friend of mine was trying to start a relationship with Patek and he was offered a 5270p as his entry into the brand. He’d requested 2 Aquanauts which arrived very quickly after this initial purchase.

Interesting Ash.

So, a £176k outlay as "the entry into the brand"........and that right there is a prime example of everything is so wrong/warped about the PP brand (and their AD's) these days and, thankfully, not what AP do at all.

Amazing… one of the best RO configurations IMO. Suits you well.

I think so, my SA called a smokey blue dial. Meeting him next week, I'll ask if I can take a picture.
