Explorer 40MM on 7 Inch Wrist

Hi folks,

I tried on the 40MM Explorer today. I'm used to wearing 42MM sports watches - this felt surprisingly similar. In fact, I think this 40MM is the limit of a Rolex that I'll feel comfortable wearing. The watch feels distinctly flatter, bigger and curved than the 39MM (which I tried about a day ago). I also felt that the lug width and bracelet taper felt much more proportional at this size. Ultimately, it felt 'focused' as a big watch, as if Rolex unabashedly knew what they wanted this watch to be size-wise.

It goes to show how important it is to try a watch on in person, regardless of published dimensions.

Sorry, I was posting from my phone with limited photo uploading options. At my laptop now!

Here are the pictures. I also added an Air King as a 40 MM comparison. Despite its technical dimensions being similar to the Explorer, it looks and feels heavier.

I think it looks good. That stated, the 36 might look even better.

I can't wait to try on the 40 myself. I owned and loved the 39 (twice), but it was just a tad too small on me.

I actually did try the 36MM but it looked really small (almost petite) on my wrist.

Then this 40MM might be your ticket. That 1MM increment has amplified its proportions enough to make a noticeable difference.

To the point about the AK: not sure the bracelet tapers as much as the Explorer, which could account for the greater heft.
