389 or 305

Am considering a Panerai Sub and when the funds permit i have got my eye on a 305 or 389. Will try the 389 on at some point to see one in person. I have tried the 305.
Seems like more people go for the 305...is there a reason for this? Please post pics of your 389 and 305's. If you went for the 389 what made you choose it over the 305?
Thanks

personally, i like the practicality of the 389 (ceramic bezel), but the looks of the 305 (big chunk of brushed SS on ammo looks ). and there's the price difference to consider.

Well, ceramic bezel and the fact that it has a much higher resistance to magnetism*... (whether or not that's necessary for the average watch owner is another question... )
I prefer the look of the 389 (must see in person) but once you factor in the price... the 305 is

*"THE LUMINOR SUBMERSIBLE 1950 AMAGNETIC 3 DAYS AUTOMATIC TITANIO IS AN ORIGINAL COMBINATION OF TRADITION AND INNOVATION. Indeed, the typical Luminor Submersible case by Officine Panerai houses beneath the dial a special soft iron case forming a Faraday cage that protects and isolates the movement from the flow of magnetic fields. This model guarantees a resistance to magnetic fields equal to 40,000 A/m (Ampère/metre), a limit more than eight times greater than the value specified by the international standards of the Normes de lndustrie Horlogère Suisse (NIHS 90-10)."

FWIW, my 233 was running dead on and after a year or so, it sped up like mad. I had it de-maged and voila, back to it's high level of accuracy. I have absolutely no contact with any serious magnetic fields, but one watchaker told me that automatic doors, security senors, etc. in your typical shopping mall entrances can be enough to magnetize your watch...

I think the higher cost of the 389 is also because of the calf leather strap it comes with vs the useless oversized Kevlar whatever dive strap that comes with the 305. Say you got the 305 and wanted to get the OEM calf leather strap and buckle that would set you back an additional few hundred bucks.

I went for the 305 and had my AD immediately order in the 389, so I could try it on. In the end, I could not justify owning two very similar watches (per my wife) and I love the dial on the 305 better.

I also like the 364, it is the only one for now that I would trade my 305 for, because it has the same dial that I like.
But in the end, the OP can't go wrong with either of the two. Their is no wrong choice because we are all different and have different taste, as the saying goes "get what sings to you".
