The question that it makes me ask is, if Seiko can create a fairly similar watch and sell for 1/64 of a Rolex, how much does Rolex actually spend to make a steel watch.
If retail is $5,700 I would guess wholesale is $3,500. I don't think they spend more than a $1,000 to actually produce the watch. I notice that it is estimated that Rolex spent $56 million on advertising, over $50 per watch produced. That is an astounding number. |

When you buy a Seiko, you are just paying for the watch, period.
When you buy a Rolex, you are paying for those Wimbledon games, Daytona races, and maybe a couple of regatta events. Something like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Some Seiko's and Grand Seiko's are making Rolex look relatively inexpensive these days. So Seiko can be very expensive too.

Well if you consider that some Seiko watches have a advertised accuracy of -30 to +20 a day (or something like that)... Then you realize that Rolex might spend tons of money on research to develop watches that are accurate to +/-2 seconds a day |

No, law of diminishing returns for watches, ie pay more for incremental improvement. Also you are paying for the Rolex brand. Probably half the cost.
Or in reverse, how many nice Seiko can you buy for the price of this Rolex?

The math adds up to 64x and doesn't add up to 64x depending on which watch I am wearing. Having both at their price points complements one another.
When I'm wearing my Rolex, my perception is that I'm getting something that 64x Seikos doesn't give me. When I'm wearing my Seiko, my perception is that I'm getting fantastic value for money. |

As noted diminishing returns. It is however a better watch hands down.

Yes it has. Actually it’s a nice looking watch. That watch has been around. My dad has a degree from one of the top schools in the country, was a high level executive. That watch has been to lots of high level places. Meetings with the Chinese Japanese the Arabs. Los Alomas Labs. MIT. senators in DC. High security off the record meetings. I laugh when I read on the Rolex section just recently about wearing Rolex’s in the board room. No one cares.

I once regulated a Seiko turtle to cosc and I agree that they are great watches. I’m just saying that out of the box, a $5000 Rolex will more than likely keep waaaaay better time that a sub $300 Seiko Nice vintage pieces Adam |

Anyone else see that the bezels on these Rolexes (OPs, Milgausses etc) are a bit garish? They're too big, too bulbous, feel out of proportion with the lugs and really fatten the look of the watch up too much.
I'm no Rolex hater and know better than to argue with success, but put these Rolexes with plainer bezels alongside other comparables, Grand Seiko etc. It's pretty plain then IMHO. |

Ok giving you either for free today and you can’t sell either ever. Which are you taking?

Rolex is obviously better made and higher quality in this instance. A Spring Drive might make this a better showdown in free vs free forever. |

Can I see your rolex with a leather strap?
I have the same rolex and I’m considering changing to NATO or leather after seeing your photo, the metal bracelet makes it look too wide Thanks Quote:

Haha of course I’ve also read that the finishing of a Grand Seiko is above the finishing of a Rolex I know here on the forum, some members say to never look at a Rolex with a loupe At a Grand Seiko AD, the guy handed me a loupe and told me to look Haha |
