GSOTM in the flesh!

I just stopped by the Omega Boutique last week and they had both. It is really hard to choose between them. Since I do not dress up that much, I feel the band on the GSOTM looks dressier that the band on the DSOTM. I like the extra lume on GSOTM better on the bezel and Omega logo. Plus, now you can get a DSOTM for 8.5 to 9K and don't have to pay the retail price of 12k if you do not want to wait. All and all a very tough decision after trying them both on.

I've tried them both on.......hate to be the downer here, but they did nothing for me.......then I saw the price.........yikes!!!! For that kind of money there are so many other watches I'd rather own. At the end of the day, the only person that has to like the watch is the person wearing it. I'm sure I have plenty of watches that a lot of others would not care for at all..........

It must be an optical illusion but the Grey one felt lighter in the hand - but in the end there is hardly anything in it - probably only the straps that make up the difference in weight. My Dark Side weights less at 92.55g.

Just awaiting an orange strap now as per my picture earlier in the thread.

Key difference for me between the two is the tachymetre - Dark Side has a glossy 'wet' look while the Grey is satin.

Feel very lucky to be able to have one - but feel truly over the moon to have both.

If you can't decide on which to have - I don't think you can make a wrong move - both are exquisite.

That grey croc strap would look fantastic on the DS. Have you ever thought of swapping straps to see how they would look?!

I'm actually more tempted to go with a bright colour - maybe orange. But options are limited.

Here is a pic I took the first time I saw the GSOTM when my initial reaction was somewhat cool for the croc strap. But actually it wears well both in the office and at weekends.

I'm finding the black Cordura doesn't work with my suits and is best kept for weekends with black jeans.

So, I've got my local dealer to get the rare orange strap with platinum stitching in for me but it does seem pricey. It comes with a platinum folding clasp so will go with the platinum face - it's the closest strap I can find that has some link back to the watch.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

My local AD received a spare strap for the LE(8) ceramic orange Planet Ocean with the platinum stitching yesterday.

So I promptly swung by and as good luck had it; they had a new Grey Side in stock so we were able to rest the orange strap on top.

But, and here is the big 'but' - the platinum folding clasp is not included and is a whopping additional cost so now I'm in two minds - maybe three.

- do nothing and enjoy the grey croc which turns out to be more in keeping with my office based life;

- buy this orange strap with a brushed steel folding clasp; or

- blow the budget out of the water and get the platinum folding clasp as well (which together is as much as another ceramic watch!)

Thoughts?

Maybe I should wait a month and see what gets launched at Baselworld 2015.

GSOTM is a beauty, I really want to go check one out. It may be on the radar depending on how it fits on the wrist - 44mm is bigger than I like for my watches.

In pictures though, this is my favorite Omega.

I'm being quoted GBP £2k for the strap; £5.5 for the platinum folding clasp.

This is going to be fun - albeit expensive at the confessional when it comes to keeping my wife happy!

The grey ceramic case is nicely finishing with a near metal like appearance but the watch is just not exciting to look at. While the DSOTM dial pops with great contrast, the GSOTM is just dull greyish and monotone.

Of course YMMV, just my personal opinion.

I really like this watch. But, wow, pricey. If you love it, you love it. However, the watch won't be discontinued in a month so I would wait for Basel.

you have to take the grey side out of the boutique to see it pop...
the Platinum really really does pop!!

and the grey ceramic does shine and glimmer, and go from a bright silver to a black-ish in different lights...

But the great part is that there are different options for different tastes...
I fail to see why every discussion about the greyside has to include "vs" Darkside ... No one is forced to choose between them...

I had both this and the dark side come in, in the end the GS didn't wow me like the DS. Beautiful watch though.

I make no apology for resurrecting an old thread.

This is where I first floated the idea of using an orange strap. I have had over four very happy years with the Grey Side on a variety of Omega OEM straps but I always felt a bit short changed that there wasn’t an orange one in the catalogue that fits a Speedmaster.

A chance conversation in a local Hermes boutique meant that about four months ago I ordered a custom watch strap in my favourite colour.

Completely blown away - all personal choice - but love the colour and the fact it doesn’t have a built up shoulder.

Anyway, just fitted and wanted to share.

Will definitely be ordering another one for my Dark Side - just not sure what colour to go for given there are so many choices.

The orange band looks great! Did they do the deployant as well? What material is it made from?

Yes - fits the Omega ceramic deployant - in fact I felt I was taking a risk by providing the measurements of the two little holes that I use - it turns out that Hermes faithfully copied the dimensions and surprise surprise it fits a treat.

It really is lovely quality - as per their other leather products - there is a unique stamp on the inside which is unique to the artisan who hand made the product.

It is swift calfskin. Not destined to be worn every day - pretty much the same price as an Omega OEM strap and of course should I need another - they have the dimensions on record.

That looks fantastic! If there‘s anything that I don‘t really like about my GSOTM it‘s the grey strap. I think it‘s a bit bland.
