I currently drive a 2015 M4 Cabrio. I am very happy with it. I bought it barely used.
My priors are on TRF. Like I said,I'm very happy. Not as great as my prior 911 Turbo Cab but damn good. PM me if you want more info!

I found the fit and finish more of an upgrade from a C. Light weight plastics, leather is an upgrade and fake wood grain, not what one would find in an S. Additionally, a four cylinder for 70K? No way.

A friend recently bought a new M5 and it looks incredible.

Still, that 650 test drive left such a bitter taste. It will take a lot for me to consider another BMW.
BMW makes great cars.
Their only bad one is the 6 series. The suspension is hard and harsh, not a comfortable coupe.

6...Too big for a sports car...too small for a luxury car.

A Great BMW is the M550i
Not a full M5, but a boat load of power, and ultra comfortable car and suspension

For someone who want luxury, and power

Agree the M6 was my least favorite.

@rickc007

Don't know how similar the M550i is, but I've got the 550i GT, sits on a 7 series frame, 400-hp, 4.4-liter direct-injection twin-turbo V-8, 450 lbs of torque, love it, hit Sport mode and suddenly you're driving a different car. Sport + Mode for a level of driver I'm not :-)

Massive car though, took some getting used to, first couple of times I punched it coming onto the highway, was suddenly topping 205 km per hour with plenty of room to go and you don't even feel the speed. Huge difference from my old 3 series.

I'm tall, so it's nice to drive a big car, if I want to take passengers in the back, they can recline their seats with plenty of legroom, and it's a beast, love it.

Full screen dash, lighting and the best auto driving, I like it, I said baby s, keep the extra 50k for hair implants, I find my car fast enough on aggressive highways in nj, beside the wrapped aggressive 3 series I encounter lol, I don’t take it that serious, there’s a reason there is more than vanilla ice

Oh yeah I have the lux fit not sport, thing has plenty of space and has a hood ornament

Don’t let my wife see that color!

She wants a convertible. It looks like I had better get the E400 ready for sale...

I think it has 50,500 miles. Just went out of warranty. What do you think? 45k?

Oh myyy!!!

Going from an E400 to a M4 Convertible is like going from a Catholic school girl to a ....... ummmmm lady of the night!?!? Sorry I guess it's not the best analogy but the only one I can think of now haaaa!?!??!

She'll looove the M4 with it's exhilarating horsepower and glorious exhaust note!!! The convertible actually has a hardtop that drops down and it honestly looks sooo sexy up or down!!!

If I didn't need the rear seat and extra two doors of my M3 ummmm I'd definitely would have my ass in a M4 Convertible

Here's another peek at my Blue!!

Your car is so Beautiful! That blue is one of a kind.

I love BMW as long as they don’t have run-flat tires. They used to run non run flat on the M’s. Are they still doing that?

I had an E36 M3 in 1999 then 3 e39’s and 2 E39 M5’s with the glorious v8.

When they went to the F-10 M5, many felt that using a shortened 7 series platform numbed the ride. Which it did.

I need to test drive the ///M3 as soon as the house remodel is closer to complete than not...

I *HATE* my 2017 E300. I was sold on the tech, but most of it doesn't seem ready for prime time. They are always breaking, or not functioning correctly. For instance, the iPod Nano I have sometimes takes 3 minutes to respond to any command. That doesn't happen on my other cars, or my PC. And the USB and near field charging is not powerful enough to charge your phone while you are using it. :-/

Some of it's safety features are its only saving grace, and pulling out of a parking space between two SUVs, its saved me a couple of times.

After moving to Mercedes after having 3 BMWs, I cant wait to get back to BMW again. I made the mistake of leasing this one, so I have 1.5 years left to go.

Have had quite a few BMWs,
I'd have trouble moving away from them, I've tried ... for whatever reason

Curious which BMW you had , and what the issue was ?
Just curious

He made a similar comment in another thread, I asked the same question and never got an answer. I have owned 3 BMW's in my life, and two of them are still in our possession, an E46 M3 and F80 M3, both have been beautiful. E46 is 14 years old, no subframe issues, no vanos issues (knock on wood). Cars have been bulletproof. On the flip side, my dad has had a couple MB's and his have been pieces of crap...... along with other friends/colleagues who buy them.

Ya, was just curious, mine have been solid and a BLAST to drive.

Recently moved on from my beloved 2003 E39 M5
Had a 135iS with a DCT, and their DCT is the shit
Have a 2015 M235i now, and man is that a fun car to drive

Was just curious if he had the base small engine cars
They don't float my boat, but are usually ranked tops in their segment.

I've test driven quite a few Mercedes, while some have had the power,
The handling lacked, and you can't get them in stick shift ... same with Audi

BMW M cars are seriously fun cars

If I had to guess, I would say standard 5 (possibly even M variant) or 7's . It is what it is with those but no different from E/S class from MB.

I had an E46 which was a good car, few issues and I sold it because it was simply too small and I got tired of the manual transmission.

My 2009 550i was a disaster. I bought it pre-owned.

Total transmission failure at 22K miles paid for by BMW. The new transmission they installed started acting up a month later.

Numerous leaks and worn out parts all under 30K miles. One repair bill was 9K and my wife asked me why I was keeping the car. Sold it that weekend. Never again.

So you bought a V8 5 series, pre-owned and surprised you had issues? Color me shocked! But your E46 was good, so you are 50/50. Minus out the bad purchase and you are batting perfect. We have had 2 M's and one standard 325ci (my first BMW) and zero issues, this started in 2003. I am not sure I would ever buy a 5 and definitely not a 7. If I ever got a 5, it would be an M and I would lease it, zero chance I would consider owning one of those for the long haul. Unless it was an E39.....

And we have 2 car seats in the back of our F80...

Gotcha, my first BMW was a 2001 E46 330ci , in 5 spd
Was unbelievably good for 165,000 miles, original clutch and all
But realized that wasn't going to last and moved on

There are some years and models i wouldn't go near.
Gotta say, the older ones were a lot easier to work on
BMW servicing your car is a quick way to go broke

But man, are those M cars a blast to drive

The E39 M5 is a blast, but I'd pass on one now.
Age alone has a lot of things going out on it.

My 2003 was great till 2015,
I did a lot of maintence myself, and parts weren't that bad

But BMWs service prices will rip you blind
$500 to change spark plugs (I paid $65 for the plugs, did it myself)

$800 for a thermostat quoting 5 hours labor
I did it for $165 in parts, took 2 hours

That type thing.
Great cars, Service will hose you Blind

Not surprised at all. The car still had the balance of a factory warranty and I fully expected service costs and routine maintenance.

The transmission replacement was paid for by BMW, again when the car had 22K miles. Not sure what that has to do with buying pre-owned or even a normal part to wear out at that mileage. They acted like this was a normal day to day occurrence.

After coming in for service one time, the service advisor told me "we found some leaks" (BMW standard feature) and you can "stop by anytime for a free leak check".

So let me get this straight, these cars leak so much that the dealer provides a free leak check service?

Sorry, too old to put up with this brand any longer.

Best of luck to those that like BMW's and have success with them.

Well, point I was making was that when you buy pre-owned (especially the 550 in question), you really have to consider how the previous owner treated and/or serviced the car. A colleague of mine bought a 535xi brand new, racked up over 100K miles on it and NEVER performed Service II maintenance. Thought it was a waste of money and wondered why the car had so many problems.....

Cannot speak to that and I have never heard of such a thing. I would suspect that every time the car is in for any service at all, a point inspection would be completed to look at any sort of potential problems.

Sorry you had such a bad experience with one car but that hardly summarizes BMW as a whole. I would say I hear WAY more complaints about MB reliability/cost over BMW. Dependability ratings do support that as well.

But she drove a Porsche...which is what I'd get if I didn't already have one...

I've had tons of BMW's, almost all of the small M cars starting with an E30 M3, and the last few have been absolute garbage with regard to reliability. Both needed new fuel pumps more frequently than they needed oil changes. It's unfortunate because even though they've gotten to be bloated and heavy the "small" M-cars still drive better than anything else IMO. I had a basic 3-series loaner car before I dumped the 1M and couldn't believe how bad it was. Horrible steering, lots of body roll and zero personality. I'd honestly take a Camry V6 over that car, because at least you know that the Camry probably isn't going to break.

A buddy just got a new E300 and I haven't driven it but the fit, finish, and interior are absolutely amazing compared to a BMW.
