“But I bet you will get better treatment walking in a Porsche dealer with a Sub on your wrist than a GS.“

Highly doubt it, pretty ignorant comment to be honest. If you’re buying a rolex souly to impress others and not yourself your in the wrong game to begin with.

he did say he preferred the GS, so I'm guessing he's not buying to impress others.
That said, I know a LOT of Rolex owners who bought their watch solely to impress others and, if my experience at any high end car dealers is anything to go by, you will receive better treatment wearing a watch that says "$$$$".
That's just the way it is.

Only so much you can do to a round watch with a black dial/bezel and a diving scale. A close look would show the massive differences between a sub and the rest of the similarly looking non rolex divers out there.
The Rolex Subs just need a complying bezel scale to be called a diver.

The Seiko dials in this thread are good to go.

Hmmm, buy a Rolex watch to impress yourself?

That’s an interesting thought......

Seiko dive watches are great, but the fit is better with Rolex dive watches, I have sold off all my Seiko divecwatches.

Rolex is a commodity. You have your money safe. Other brands, not so much. As great as GS is, it doesnt have the brand awareness Rolex pulls. For that matter, no other brand does. Thats why a lot of people would take Rolex over GS. I can tell you one particular reason i would pick GS over Rolex.. it has become increasingly dangerous traveling abroad with a flashy watch - particularly Rolex. Id take a Seiko without a doubt

For me if Seiko made a GS diver in 40mm I would be all over it. I have owned (4) Seiko MM"s and I loved them. But they were just to top heavy for me. I owned them longer than any Sub/SD that I have ever bought.

I do miss owing the SBGX115 though

It’s no secret that I generally prefer GS to Rolex, but plain and simple, GS divers are way too big for my wrists.

I own both brands including SubC and SLA019.
Both brands offer great quality and value for money.

IMO Seiko still needs to improve service availability outside Japan, especially for JMD models.

Back in the spring of 2015 I was looking at both. I wound up going with an 116600 for the more traditional case shape over the 116610 and far less bling than the GS. But that’s just me.

The listed accuracy of +15 to -10 seconds per day is not that impressive.

I like my 007 better than any of the Rolex divers I’ve owned over the years.

There. I said it.

Seiko tends to be conservative like that. Mine runs about +4.

I like the GS diver and in general it is better made than older gens of Rolex diver but will not be comparable with those current R models

In reflecting on it, the Submariner is the intersection of performance, value, wear and value for me. I am that guy when it comes to Rolex watches. I do like my others but Rolex is it for me. Tudor is the next watch and if they had been in the market the way they are now, 25 years ago, when I got started I probably would have more of them than Rolexes. I am a huge Seiko fan and am educating myself about the brand and I currently have 4 watches from them, all divers. I just can not get to the point of spending the money on a GS or MM. Maybe in the future but for now I like my options under $500.

Ah, thank you. I always wondered why the Seiko accuracy numbers listed were much worse than Rolex. I would much like to see what Seiko's realistic expectations are for its watches.

I respect how Rolex puts it out there that its watches are +/-2 sec/day and a 5-year warranty backs that standard up.

Seiko claims one second per day accuracy for Spring Drives as I recall, but owners seem to report around one second per month in reality.

Intersting. I wonder what the real world numbers are for the automatics like the GMT SBGJ203G. The specs online say +5/-3 when static (how is that even helpful...I guess while you sleep) and +10/-1 while being worn.

I would be a bit irritated to spend $6,000 on a GS that runs +10 on my wrist only to have Seiko tell me that is within specs and they won't do anything about it.

If Seiko numbers are better than the specs then why not state it accurately in your literature. Are they trying to under promise and over deliver?

I went to Leeds to buy a Rolex sub. On the way to the dealer I passed by a AD that had just started selling GS, I bought a High beat and a quartz instead of the Rolex Sub and was (and still am) very happy with my choice, I had to save again for a diver and was very undecided between the GS Diver and a Rolex Sub. My decision ended up being the Rolex, simply because I had 2 GS in my collection already but no Rolex.

If I could only have 1 watch and it had to be a diver, I would be hard pushed looking beyond a Marinemaster or GS Diver.

For me the green MM300 is both my DSSD and my Hulk, all in one watch, if that makes sense.

I’m not sure what point I’m trying to make, so I’ll just post a pic and shut up.

Seiko under promises, and over delivers. A rarity these days.
