Stainless Daytona Pricing

This is crazy, DavidSW has a new white face for $27,875. What is the ceiling going to be on these?

Why should it have a ceiling? Does the stock market have a ceiling?

It's worth whatever people will pay for it, so as soon as someone stops paying the prices, the prices go down.

At that price I can see why people can easily justify to bundle other watches in order to obtain one at MSRP.

Whatever the market will bear. Sellers will get what they can get, until they can’t. Not to mention.....Daytona’s are red hot right now. Just look at David’s site. He usually has 2 pages worth, now only a handful.
The GMTC LN price went nuts after it was discontinued.....now settling back down. New BLNR price has come down a touch from when the first 2 or 3 came for sale on TRF as well.

there is no ceiling. SS daytona black or white is the ultimate Rolex at the moment. There may be better watches, but it is universally known that the Daytona is hard to get, so that is why it is so wanted. If you see one in the wild you think.. either this guy must have serious connections to get one or this guy must have a boat load of cash to pay the premium. It s part of the appeal I guess.

It used to be worth it to pick up a WG for a little bit more, but even those are higher.

I am sorry, but I am sitting it out until the madness ends. Only vintage pieces should be climbing as they are no longer in production.

There is definitely a relative ceiling, it can go higher than gold Daytona’s because it has ceramic bezel and bracelet but not higher than Platona.

David only has 2 BLNRs, oyster and jubilee. Wonder if he pulled other inventory to squeeze demand? I still haven’t given up on getting Daytona from AD. If I don’t get it by the end of the year I rather buy an OF Daytona and that’ll be that

I predicted 30K when new BLRO was going for 22K. No way BLRO should be in the same price range of Daytona.

It's going to be greater when Rolex release a different color variation or change to jubilee going forward.

Hey, DavidSW knows more about demand and supply than most of us...

Oh, Takuya selling a brand new one for 24K right now.

For the first time, I think that is crazy pricing. Seems like anyone that gets these from AD just resells them.

I'd rather search out a pm at close to that price.

The Daytona is fantastic, but it's just not worth 27k. I understand people will pay that, but what those people don't realize is that with 27k you can a hell of a lot more watch both in Rolex or in other brands. 27k can get you some amazing perpetual calendars. It can get you some great Royal Oaks.

Insanity at those secondary prices I'd consider swapping my 116500ln for a pm daytona.

That’s just over $1k short of what I paid for the white GOLD Oysterflex, which looks much better than the overhyped SS in my most humble opinion

Guessing Oysterflex Daytona prices will start to increase as well given this absurdity

Well, current prices certainly look irrational when compared with the intrinsic value of a steel Daytona and price escalation has been fast and steady. How do you call that?

Well considering I purchased both my Daytonas at MSRP, given how high the Grey market prices are even if the market popped and the economy collapsed, I think I am above MSRP for the foreseeable future. Hopefully .... :)

The intrinsic value of a steel Daytona is well below MSRP. It doesn't cost Rolex a lot to make these, and secondary costs like research and production facilities are non-factors at this point.

If you know what intrinsic value means, you should also know what veblen goods are. These have never been priced "rationally."

I considered one when they were low 20s but decided to go the white gold route. That has since been sold though despite it being a 2007 watch it was significantly less than $27k. "Intrinsic value" of a white gold Daytona may be more than steel but simply buy a $27k gold bracelet if you want a commodity on your wrist. These are in many respects veblen goods as someone else has stated above.

For a good amount less than $27k I now have a ROC. I would still love a black dial ceramic Daytona but for the market price there are so many more other watches I prefer
