Thanks for sharing your story and I’m glad it wasn’t worse. You should share the serial number so it can show up in a search.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal, but glad you made it out in one piece.

Do you have police records, or any official record of the events? If so, maybe this is something you can provide to your original AD who might help you out if they're feeling kind.

Unlikely though, so looks like grey will be the only option unless you wanted to pick up something different to a Daytona. £12k is a decent amount to get a couple of watches at MRSP from your local AD, who might then assist you with acquiring a new Daytona.

Make sure you also report the watch as stolen - I believe RSCs can check to see if a model is listed as stolen but not 100% sure how this works...

I would try Watches.co.uk, they are pretty good. https://www.watches.co.uk/Rolex-Dayt...string=daytona

Just wondering who you insure with, I put mine on the house insurance but at list price and each one listed, so would be stuck if I had to claim. Looking to get them insured at market value would appreciate and pointers to a UK insurer

OP, I hope you get things sorted to your satisfaction.

A selfish query, which might be relevant to other UK based members: who are you insured with? It's good to know they paid out, however as you've now found out, policies that don't pay market value can leave you well short in the event of a claim on a watch that is trading well above retail on the used market.

Send a copy of the police report and watch information to Rolex. They’ll enter it into their database. It might get sent for service years from now and you might just get it back one day. It has happened....sorry ego bruised but at least you are ok.

Sorry to hear that. I would, however, reward myself for having survived such an ordeal, go grey and get a brand new Daytona-C

You are correct, but the watch now belongs to the insurance company, so it makes little difference to the OP.

OP, glad you're not dwelling on the incident. Not an easy market to replace with a new one, but I would certainly go new ceramic.

Good luck

sorry to hear, hope you find a replacement. I insisted my insurance cover full grey market replacement of the impossible to get models.

but from 2006 it's undoubtedly a 116520 right, or dare I say a leftover 16520.

Also OP lives in London and AD was in NY. Purchase date was 13 years back. Hey, it's worth a try, but not likely to get results that route, aside from the fact that your watch is discontinued.

last thing i would want would be to get a call that my sentimental watch was found and then having to buy it from the insurance company

If i make a claim, im done with it and i dont want to know. If they want to enter it into a database fine, im not. I dont make a habit of putting too much effort into other people's watches.

That happened to an ally of mine in Washington DC.

Was travelling solo for work. Went to a bar. Met some people there. They chatted him up, drugged him, dragged him out of the bar like..."oh my buddy's had too much. I'll get him home"..

He ended up on a park bench with only his boxers on. They stole everything...even the shirt off his back. He's a bit of a hypebeast, so the clothes were $$$ too. Cops found him and got him back to his hotel. Glad he wasn't injured, but the hassle to get all that sorted out on the road was just insane.

It happens man..scary $%$#.

My bother was also drugged at a bar in Houston and his watch was stolen. One of his friends thought he was just drunk, so they put him in a cab ... he couldn't even walk and has no memory of what happen.

Dreadful story, sorry to hear. I’ve been to the South of France many many times and never once felt at risk. Hope you can replace it easily ...

This is terrible. Glad you're ok op. The watch is irrelevant IMO. In a situation like that my only concern would be my purity lol. On a serious note, if this is not uncommon, one more thing to avoid on trips. I'm always with my wife but I'm usually friendly and I like to join nice conversations when I'm abroad if we're at a bar or something. I'll have to be more vigilant not only for my safety but mainly for my wife's. Sad world we live today.

Wow, I'm very sorry to hear you had to experience this. Albeit difficult, these material things can be replaced. I'm just glad that you somehow made it out of that without being physically hurt.

I know it'll be no easy task but is possible, nonetheless. You'll likely be better off going ceramic and from a grey dealer so you can have another.

The difficulty of replacing these watches if the unthinkable happens is a real shame too. Thanks for sharing this story with us and please be safe out there! Best of luck to you finding a replacement watch as well

Wow, very scary stuff.
Glad you are ok and were able to escape unharmed.

Honest question though - Did this very unfortunate incident make you re-consider having $10k+ on your wrist at all?
