New to me '69 Tudor 7020/0 Date-Day

New to me 7020/0 Tudor Date-Day

Serial number dates this piece to 1969.

Beautiful dial. Aged to almost a lilac/lavender color. Appears much "bluer" in photos. Dial is in amazing shape. I can't find a blemish. Any scratches noted in the pictures below are scratches in the acrylic crystal.

Love the functionality of the watch. I affectionately compare it to a mullet (business on the dial and party on the bezel). One could instantly transition from board room to swimming pool.

Unlike the 36mm Rolex Day-Dates of the era this one is full sports sized. Also referred to as JUMBO!

Size hhown here in comparison to my Explorer II:

Here are a few additional photos.

Beatiful example. The Tudor Date-Day Jumbo is possibly the most under-rated watch of all time.

I've found the lume in the hands is prone to crumbling, though. The lume in my previous two Date-Days has fallen out spontaneously, just during everyday office wear. It's not like I was doing triathlons.

If I get another one, I'll certainly get the lume stabilized.

Thanks guys! I'll keep and eye on the hand lume. I remember having the lume on my 76100 stabilized from the back.

Beautiful dial. It seams a lot of the blue dials in particular degraded over time

You got lucky with that dial OP, that color is known to deteriorate where the lume comes in contact with it. It looks like it has already started at the number 8 baton but isnt too bad. I have seen considerably worse. Beautiful watch!

Jumbo 38MM - wears like a No Crown Sub.

Look at those fat chamfers. Early style Bezel, too. Do not see many of those ; )

One of my "I'll get around to it projects" is building a 7020 Based RANGER with all Tudor parts. Maybe next year.

Very nice jumbo! Reminds me of the same “feel” the Rolex Turn-O-Graph gives me. In a size that watch lovers seem to be returning to.

Same size, weight and case as a Milgauss 1019, but more affordable.

Was this one on the bay? I have a silver dial 7020 and was looking at it bc it's in much better shape than mine. Awesome pick up on what I feel is the most under rated reference there is!

Nice piece - the bezel on these for some reason reminds me of the first ever GMT made (yr before 6542 launched) the 1950s Glycine Airman.

You are 100% correct. Surprised I didn't notice it. My 49 year old eyes are going to the dogs. Agree, I've seen considerably worse too.

Yep, I was watching it when it sold the first time in December or January. I've been following it. Seller accepted my reasonable offer then the auction site had a 10% coupon that I was able to stack.

.... it was a deal as far as I am concerned.

Here's mine. Works well on an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet, and on any leather strap. Leather NATO here.

So versatile.

I didn’t realise yours was the same as mine with smooth bezel

Exactly the same as yours. I'm a sucker for a smooth bezel. I do enjoy Dr. Smellody's busier bezel too, though. Reminiscent of a DateJust Turn-O-Graph

As memory serves, the Tudor Date-Days were made only in 1969 and 1970 (willing to be corrected). Mine is '69 (serial no. 693xxx). Barely looks a day old.

This is a myth as I uncovered!! Most seem to be around 69, but perhaps they produced far too many to sell as there are later ones; mine included; 926xxxx

Yeah, you did awesome! It's a great ref and yours initially at glance looked too clean but upon further inspection looks like a true gem!

I need to remember those ebay promos. I think they had 15% up to $500 this weekend which on top of a good offer, can really sway the balance to us collectors.

That is beautiful sir. One of the nicest vintages pieces I've seen.
