If it were an early 2000's piece or older, I would definitely save the $700-$1000. Given it's from 2019, the extra $$$ will be worth it down the road.

PS - shoot for $700 extra :)

Assuming both watches are in similar or comparable condition, I would not hesitate to pay the extra $700 for a complete set.

Compare the price of the watch, $700 premium is a relatively small percentage of the overall cost. While you may not contemplate selling in the near future, who can guarantee that this will stay true for the years to come? Having the optionality to sell in the future and recovering this "slight premium" when you do sell this, it is not a bad upfront cost.

Just my personal thoughts.

Box and papers a must for me if I am ever going to buy a watch from a private seller, like say, you.

But if I am buying from a trusted seller, or a jewelry shop where I can get a nice invoice and proof of purchase, then papers don't play a role.

Depends.

I wouldn't hesitate to save that kind of cash.

Some folks will only buy with "box and papers", but that is from conditioning or personal preference, not from any true practical reason.

It is simply untrue that your watch needs to come with every jot and tittle, nor does your baseball cap need the tag kept on.

Papers can add considerably to a very rare example that is seldom found in original condition, still, no collector is going to turn down a pristine Red or Newman just because somebody tossed their outdated warranty.

For most modern references it makes little difference, you still won't lose any money if you choose to sell later.

After negotiating on both ends, as of right now, there is a $850 difference in price between the two.

I will personally pay the extra to get the complete one with Box and Papers and the card which is important also, but it all depends on what you want.

I used to be the kind of person who would only buy my watches new, but these days I only really care for neo-vintage or vintage models so that is no longer possible. Part of my OCD requires that box, papers, hang tags and service records be included if it is a Rolex, Omega, or other watch of similar value.

but this service card will not be not identical to the first card, it doesnt say the date of original purchase or the Name of the AD and Buyer as a 2019 card should say.

Card is good for two purposes:

Proving authenticity and obtaining warranty service. Presumably if one is paying for service, the watch is out of warranty, and RSC won't work on a watch that's not completely authentic, so the service card has the effect of demonstrating authenticity, too.

In other words, you accomplish the same thing with it.

Pay more for a full set or...

Card or box is not just about practicality.

For me a full set on top of a very good condition show the right kind of care and love I would like my future watch to have had.

Of course accidents can and do happen and boxes or cards get lost so I treat each situation on it’s own.

I'd pay extra, it's only a grand more. Worth it if you need to sell one day, you never know. Cover your back. Every umbrella counts on a rainy day.

For a recent model, I'd wonder why they are selling it without a card. If it was an older pre-2000, then I'd care more about condition.

If you're sure about the watch's authenticity, then buy it without the papers. If you ever decide to sell it, then first send it to an RSC for service. The RSC warranty card will command a higher price for your freshly serviced watch; likely enough to offset the RSC service cost. I did this a few years ago with a PM GMT - worked out fine for me and my happy buyer.

Market proves otherwise, service card has little added value.
Original card is important and easily worth the 800

When I'm spending a few thousand dollars I'd like to get a complete set as much as possible, if not than at least the original card. Sure you can't wear it, but to me it would feel incomplete without the card. Boxes and manuals can be replaced, sure the card in theory could be replaced by getting it serviced, but it isn't the same.

I would never buy a recent (2019) Rolex without paper, to many suspicious watches in circulation, people suggest to send it for service, what about if is in the Rolex list of stolen watches? Why take the chance for an extra 10-15% of what you already spending?
just my 2¢…

I agree that condition is most important but I always prefer a full set when possible. You should be able to find one that offers both.

I agree that the condition is first consideration but would pay for box and papers all else being equal. I've heard they are easy to fake but not my area of expertise...
