Tudor 7017/0 Date+Day Movement

Late last year I bought a used Tudor 7017/0 Date+Day that required a service, so I sent it to a watchmaker I’d only used once in the past.

Since I do not have the Bergeon tool for removing Oyster case-backs I wanted to confirm the movement. I learned the watch called for a Tudor-prepared A. Schild 1895 automatic movement, and this was confirmed by the watchmaker.

Fast-forward five months, when the service had been completed, and the watchmaker informs me the rotor on the movement is not signed by Tudor. Now I’m no longer certain it even has an A. Schild-based movement.

The watch is due back today, and I will find out shortly what exactly is the origin of the movement. If it is actually an A. Schild 1895, I will try to find a correctly signed Tudor rotor. If it is not an A. Schild 1895 I will endeavor to find a complete, correct movement for the watch.

My question is, what is the Tudor designation for the Date+Day 7017/0 movement? I want to know what I will be looking for in order to restore the watch properly as it will also need a hand set.

Any information on the A. Schild 1895-based movement for the 7017/0 will be appreciated.

The A.Schild 1895 should have a Tudor rotor - it may have been replaced with what's available depending on who and when it was done.

Photos when you have them

Watchmakers sometimes replace rotors with a non-tudor item if not available as Linesider says

These watches were only £650-800 ten/twelve years ago, so it didn't matter to most owners back then.

As values soar, and collectors get on board, things matter more.

As an example I have a 1995 79280 small block valjoux 7750 cal. with a non Tudor rotor fitted (the orig Tudor rotor with well worn bearing is in the box - the non-signed Tudor one is actually more quiet than the Tudor signed Valjoux version).

So don't be too hasty concluding the whole calibre is wrong... it probably isn't - and just needs a signed rotor, if you are so inclined. Photo of cal. will confirm of course.

The watch is due back today through USPS

When I get the watch back I’ll take it to my local watchmaker if I cannot get the case-back off, which I expect to be the case.

Did Tudor give their version of the A. Schild 1895 a Tudor reference number?

If the movement is actually an A. Schild 1895 is there a source for a hand set?

Thank you.

TUDOR A5 1895 is Tudor Ref I think.

Photo 15 of 16 shows calibre shape to check against and rotor btw.

Handset not sure - I always get my watchmaker SHWR, to clean them up and colour match rather than trying to locate new ones unless in a terrible state.

That’s the movement in my watch . . .

Looking at the photos on Chrono24 and comparing them to the single photo I got from my now-former watchmaker I can confirm that’s the movement in my watch.

Now I’ll look for a Tudor rotor and a hand set for the watch, and maybe a dial refinisher or a replacement dial.

Thank you for your help!

Handset is wrong. Didn’t realise SHWR were so local. Great to know.

Mine would appear correct, but would have been stabilised/relumed years ago as there is some markings on them.
