there's a reason they call him the godfather. also there's an hbo show about him and the showtime lakers which is very good

That is an amazing stat for sure! But I wouldn't call him underrated (let alone the most underrated!) - most basketball folks would know of Pat Riley's greatness, even if they're new to that stat like I was.

I remember his showtime Lakers with him on the sidelines, but don't remember his player days. He moved onto Miami and roamed the sidelines for a bit, but he's been an Exec for so long that one forgets he's still in the front office pulling the strings having learned that craft from one of the best in Jerry West.
The stat just hit me like a Mack truck because for someone to be involved in 25% of all finals since the inception of the NBA is truly remarkable when you consider all the teams from the 60's and 70's, including but not limited to all the Red Auerbach Celtic teams, Knicks, Bulls, Spurs dynasties etc. |
