Help with this Mk 1, Long E GMT 1675
Hi all. I was hoping for some help from the experts. I found this 1968 Mk 1,Long E GMT 1675 at an extremely attractive price. This is a reference I had written off because I figured I could no longer afford one, but this piece has me thinking. I know the case is either polished or recut and there's a little lume loss on the hour markers. I also believe the bezel insert is probably a replacement. Is there anything I'm missing? How would you rate this piece? Thanks in advance for the help.

Looks like a fine example. As you mention, insert is not period correct but you can worry about that at a later date, if the price is so attractive..

Looks great for the age. Hard to argue that. It's a good starting point at least.

Congrats. Looks like you found a nice example at a reasonable price. Life is good in GMT Land!

Better hurry. It’s a fine looking watch.
I blame it on autoconnect. |

After finding the high-res photos of this watch, my only disappointment is that the tritium on the dial has either been chipped out to remove spots or flaked out with age. Depending on how it looks under a loupe, it might be a candidate for professional re-luming. Otherwise, the rest I could probably live with -- especially for the price. It seems priced accordingly.
If you can get it imported without headaches or a ton of fees, it might be worth doing. Worse case... luminova service dial and hands. |

Thanks for taking another look. It seemed to me like the lume loss was very minimal. The 1 and 10 markers, maybe a bit on the 12. I feel like I’ve seen watches with worse lume loss, relumed hands or without bracelets go for quite a bit more than this one - is it not as much of a bargain as I had originally thought? You’ve got John’s (Springer) approval, I’d jump on it.

I'd really have to see it under a loupe to make a call on the dial. It doesn't look bad but there's definitely some lume missing. It can be fixed if you're inclined to have it fixed. That's why I joked about it above. If you like it then you should jump on it, especially if it meets your criteria and budget. You're the one who will be wearing and enjoying it. That's what matters most. |

If Springer says yes, that's all you need to know.
