I feel like I just watched a movie with a very unexpected plot twist!

A much safer purchase, assuming you got it from an AD. Congrats!

And did you get your money back for the other Sub?

It's not often you get your tuition refunded from Vintage Watch U.

Perhaps you might now like to thank all those who gave you the right advice and persisted even when you questioned it. You have been saved from a very expensive mistake.

One might also be glad to see the dealer's appraisal and hear what he had to say about the watch when it was returned. This could be of great interest to any local members...

Agreed. What did the dealer say when you asked for a refund? Did he acknowledge your concerns with the watch? And it'd be great if you could post a copy of the appraisal

In this quotation from Post 46 you said that you had the appraisal.

As for the dial, did the dealer state that this one with its diddy-depth text is a correct service dial made by Rolex?

Just for the record, who is this dealer and where are they? Do they have a website?

Beverly Hills Jeweler Orlando Florida.
And yes I miss spoke the appraisal was being mailed to me.
I let him know that I looked through all the sub dials and Rolex never made one like that . He said the watch will sell fast to someone who isnt as picky

He says "someone who isnt [sic] as picky...;" another might say "someone who likes to buy what they believe they are buying."

I find this whole thread rather disquieting and would be most grateful if you could post the appraisal here when received.

Yes I will and trust me I wasnt treated very well once I got back to the store. They acted as though this was my fault because i was being picky over a 50 year old watch.

Fair enough !

They don't sound like people I'd buy a Rolex from and I look forward to an update soon.

Your 114060 is the good news; enjoy that without any of this history detracting from it. Helping members get the measure of the dealer who sold you the 5513, however, will be a bonus!

Yes, perhaps. And then that person will get home with the watch, Google vintage Subs, find this forum and we'll do this all over again! What fun!

I'll add this store to my "Never Buy From Them" list. Oh, it's a long one.

I am sorry to revive this thread from January, but the OP promised to show us the appraisal from the jeweller.

To save members trawling back through the thread, this was the 1960s Submariner with clearly incorrect dial (tiny depth rating) about which the dealer apparently said he would easily sell it again to someone who "wasn't so picky."

The appraisal was a significant element in the thread; several of us asked to see it and the OP said he would post it here.

I just read this entire, dated thread - and wow! .. OP, you did the right thing. Never buy a vintage Rolex unless you 100% know what you're getting yourself into. It's a minefield of misleading, misrepresented, hacked together pieces with shady sellers trying to make a profit.

Glad to see we have a happy ending here!

Return it. Do some research and have the seller get you some proper pics and then post them here... As you may have noticed, youll get a lot of responses and make the right purchase. Return it today.

Second the "help" comment above. No one here wants to see someone buy a bastardized version of an iconic watch, unless the buyer is happy with that situation.
