20 + years flying in USN. I vote GMT. Not because I wore it flying. I wore a Timex. I vote GMT because I have a BLNR and I TREASURE IT!!

I spent nearly my entire 20-year Air Force flying career wearing a 16710. It was my one watch for decades.
The Sky Dweller is a very interesting complication in a quite ugly presentation. You couldn’t give me one. |

Wasn’t an option when I got this
one but I would still choose the GMT over the sky D today. This is how it looks after twenty years of short haul Arline ops. Looks fine as long as you don’t get too close Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Not a pilot, but I would think a GMT would be better suited for the cockpit. That's just a guess on my part, though.
Actually, having traveled extensively the last 10 years or so of my career, the EXP2 was my go to. |

GMT. I honestly think Pilot or otherwise it’s the one watch I could see myself keeping long after the others have been handed down

None. I’d wear a Casio. Much more accurate in time and functions..

Airline pilot for about 20 years and for me, GMT for sure. I think the poll is quite clear!

I am a private pilot and I prefer an Apple Watch when it comes to time zone duties.

Pilot here. With modern navigational devices telling you zulu time per waypoint there is not nearly a NEED for GMT watches as the good ol days of the 70´s and 80´s.
As others have said Sky wears dressier, and more expensive. I still love the GMT´s !!! |

GMT Master II suits the pilot best with legibility and simplicity.
Sky-Dweller suits the passenger in first class best with function and stylish presence.

Amazing number of pilots on these forums! I should have added a disclaimer, I am NOT an airline pilot. :p Was merely curious what you all thought!
I could see how the GMT is more rugged - crazy to say about a watch that's ~$10k, but maybe the SD is more for those folks flying 1st class all the time. :) Also to the pilot with the 5990 - I should rethink my career choices, maybe an airline pilot would have been the right choice! |

Agreed! I much prefer the older variants than the new ones. And you're right about the accuracy of the superquartz. Mine only gains 3 seconds a year.

As most here know, the current Air-King design was inspired by Rolex's instruments on the Bloodhound SSC. It's hard to imagine a bigger disaster during a land-speed record attempt in an automobile than going airborne, so it remains puzzling why Rolex felt it was a good idea to use the Air-King as the model to showcase the design. Taking that ill-conceived naming concept and stretching it to presuming the A-K would make a good pilot watch is equally bemusing. |

I made a post about a pilot's GMT yesterday - I got talking to him because of his watch, and found it that he had been a USAF Test Pilot!
His GMT was 20 years old, and had been on his wrist in over 70 types of aircraft, over a 20 year career Military career and now Civil flying. It has been at Mach 2.5 in an F-15D and up to 70,000 feet (above the Armstrong limit) in a U-2S. I am guessing that not many watches can make that claim! We don't get many USAF test pilots here in New Zealand, so my sons and I really enjoyed talking with him. I think he would have found it strange if I had asked for a picture of his watch!! I am just a glider pilot, so am unlikely to ever have to worry about different time zones, but I would still prefer the GMT. |

Voted for the GMT because you can see multiple timezones, including UTC.
The SkyD functionality is a bit more limited. |

Here’s my vote. It’s on rotation with an Explorer II and a PAM00233.
