Thoughts on this 16750, please

Hi Everyone,

Long time lurker, but recently officially joined the forum. I have been interested in adding a matte 16750 to my small, currently Omega-only watch collection (105.012 Speedy and 165.0324 SM300).

I'd like to humbly consult the members here for your expert opinions on this piece I'm considering. It's an 8.x serial, dial purportedly original. Unsure if the hands are original tritium, tritium replacements or luminova. Crystal looks like it could use some Polywatch.

I'm not looking for the most perfect unpolished example (I enjoy wearing my watches regularly as part of a rotation), but would like it to be honest.

Thanks in advance,

-JP

Looks like luminova hands, dial looks nice though. The hands still glow I’m sure

@J Peterman
The handsets on the matte dial 16750 were prone to corrosion so it's difficult to find one in all original condition. Do you know the service history on the watch? Also, can you go a little further out on the SN? How late is it...8,3ish?

Thanks for your input. Watch is running but service history unknown (was planning to have it serviced). I’ll have more pictures tomorrow, including more detail on the serial and case. Looks like a “Mark 1” 16750 dial (tall coronet, L over E in “Rolex” over “Perpetual”). Would prefer tritium hands but I understand corrosion was an issue with this reference. Asking price is $9.5k, is this a good price for this piece or should I keep looking?

Welcome to the forum!

IMHO this one is OK for the right price and as a less-stress wearer its a good candidate. I think the bottom crown guard is a little nubby and the bottom lugs a bit thin but not enough to take it out of the running. Endlinks sit short I'm guessing they are not the 580s you want to see here... Get some more pics up of the bracelet, clasp and movement. I'm on the fence...

I think the hands are ok and original.

Good luck!!

580 End Links are for Subs with Oyster Bracelets I think.

GMT 16750 Jubilees utilized 550 end links. 580 are Oyster end links.

580 end links were used on the GMT 16750 78360 and 93150 Oyster bracelets - both of these bracelets could be found originally on a GMT 16750 as well as the 62510 Jubilee.

Thanks everyone for your replies and interest thus far. I received a few more photos from the seller.

The hands still glow, and I still can’t tell if they’re luminova replacements or tritium service hands. But to my eye the rest looks pretty honest. 8.19M serial, 62150H jubilee with incorrect 555 (DJ) endlinks, 3075 movement. Case has some wear but that’s ok with me. Asking is $9.5k, is this a reasonable price for this piece?

It has a Datejust or non-GMT Jubilee bracelet which has a significant difference in value when compared to a correct GMT Jubilee bracelet.

Spend a little more and buy a well sorted one from John (Springer). imo, to get this watch right, youll prob end up paying about the same.
