I Would pay $10 more just to set the tone for the negotiation. In so doing I would be letting them know they are dealing with someone that's not only flush for cash, but also has an eye for the details ... oh yah.

That crown is perpendicular. Should follow the natural lines of the case, the north side of the case.

Nope, just looked at the orientation on my 17 year old Sub and it is totally upside down, it’s actually the first time I’ve ever looked

They’ve fixed this in the newer OP watches, so it’s clearly within their capabilities, but not yet on their other models.

But occasionally you find a watch that just so happens to have the crown oriented correctly. Would you pay extra for such a watch? If it was a grail watch for you, would you care about the perfect orientation? Or do most people not care?

Anyone have any idea if on future sports models Rolex will try and orient the crowns just like on the newer OPs?

No.

Even if you found a Rolex (save for a Skydweller) with an “aligned” crown...it would gradually align itself differently after prolonged use.

Don't know about the OP's.
Why would they put the resources into a base model watch?
The only watch Rolex makes to date with a crown that alignes is the PM Skydweller.

You need to get out more and get some more life experience

No.

Function of the crown is to wind , set and maintain water resistance.

Orientation is not a consideration for me.

If it bothers you not to have a perfectly aligned crown I'd suggest polishing it off.

No. But given the choice between two otherwise equal pieces it would hold some sway.

I think it’s something you could get adjusted at service time easy enough so no big deal?

No it’s correct if there is such a standard.
Take a look on the Rolex website and see how the Skydweller’s crown is presented. In fact all Rolex models are presented in their catalog with the crown as pictured.

No room for adjustment here Duncan.

On the models we are discussing the final position of a correctly torqued new crown tube is not adjustable and the crown with its own internal gasket will again stop at a finger tight random position.
