I jumped into the deep end & ordered an X, 256 gig, Silver. I'm not really sharp when it comes to phones & technology. If I had to be honest, I don't utilize my phone at it's full potential so for me to want the latest & greatest every year is pointless. I held out 3 yrs & it's time. I did like the speed of the 8 & thought it was a great phone, till I held the X. At 1st I didn't really notice any difference with the screen display between the 2, but when I watched a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 trailer on You Tube with both phones side by side, was it clear the X was far nicer. It really only took 10 min of playing with it to get into the swing of swiping this way, swiping that way & learning the new way of navigating the phone. I did curse a few times but it got easier the more I made mistakes. I just learned to figure it out. I didn't actually notice the notch when I was watching the videos, but mind you, I was focusing on specific parts of the video to compare picture quality & colour. I had debated on going with the Samsung S8 but I didn't like how long & thin it was. I like them a bit shorter & wider. The X is still small enough for my hand, a bit larger screen, & small enough to still slip into my purses without needing a tote for my phone. I like that there is a slight bezel on the edge. My eyes know where to stop. I hope the transition is smooth & no hiccups. I did see the SE on display. OMG, it's small. I can't remember them being that small & I did have a 5 at one point (until my 5 fell in the sink & I had to buy an unlocked 6 from Apple.). The sales associate at the Rogers store said the SE's are very popular with men. He said a lot of them come in looking for a phone they can slip into their pant pocket without having to buy a man bag for it.

For those that have the X, did Apple do away with displaying the battery percentage on the screen? I thought I read something about that. Shame if they did, I rely on it a lot. Methinks there is going to be a lot to get used to. I just hope I don't pop some brain cells from frustration. LOL

For the Canadians here, I went through Rogers. I was going to go through the corporate plan at work but the price was more than what I negotiated with Rogers directly (ask for customer retention). My hospital was listed under their "business" section & so I was able to get a good rate because of that, plus the phone came out to $549 Can as there was a $100 credit (which is about $433 US). A lot better than $1500 retail! Crazy pants too expensive! They sent an email to my work email addy to confirm place of business to obtain a Token, then called customer support with that number & they finalized it. Phone should be arriving in a week they said. If I wanted to pick it up at the store, I would have lost the $100 credit & the phone would have been $649. I've waited 3 yrs from getting a new phone, I can wait a week. Also to add, that they were offering the 8, 256 gig at $179 with the $100 credit applied. Not bad either. I don't know if this is true, but the Rogers sales guy said that all their phones will be unlocked come December. I don't know if this is a government regulation or what.

swipe down from the top right corner and you will see the battery percentage.

Yes you would need to swipe down from the right to see the percentages.

CRTC stipulated that all phones starting in Dec would be sold unlocked regardless of carrier.

Good deal on your phone! Too bad my company does not use Rogers and the corporate plans are worse than what I currently have.

Thanks for the info. It's just 1 more thing I'll have to get used to. LOL

Interesting the CRTC mandated all carriers be unlocked. Guess it really opens up competition now if we aren't shackled to a specific carrier.

Windows can't read the image files from my new X

Question for the experts- how to I get Windows to read HEIC extension files?

My new iPhone X creates HEIC extension files instead of jpeg's. How do I convert these into something that can be read by Windows, Photoshop, or Light Room?

What cases are you using for the X?
My son got his X and waiting for a case by UAG.

I haven’t even bought the x (yet) but have already looked in to getting the Mophie, I have used their cases for years and am very satisfied. Personally, I like the battery cases, not only do they provide protection but I have a stand-by emergency complete phone charge-up whenever necessary. You can’t get more convenient then having a charger and battery built-in to your protective case.

P.S. Nice Avatar Richard On a side note, it is still keeping perfect time and I moved it to a prominent display area in my living room. It is the pride and joy of all my clocks. I have been searching for months for the earlier model. That clock was released from 1928 to 1931, mine is the 30 to 31 version, the rare-er 28/29 one has subtle differences, and is more difficult to come across, but I sure would like to add it to my collection.

Apple silicone white and ThanoTech K11 bumper silver. All I need is a case and a bumper.

Speck - Presidio Grip Case, used the same with my iphone 7. Feels great in the hand, 10ft drop protection, looks professional and you can get them wet.

Using the Apple silicone case. I like the Apple cases. Seem to hold up well.

Also really liking the performance of the X. Much faster than my previous phone. Battery life is great. Pretty smooth transition so far.

Which ones?

Seriously though, the rush to patch the Qualcomm WiFi chip security hole did leave several loose ends in that update which affected many users.

And the iPhoneX cold screen issue caused another rush to patch (11.1.2) may have some “hanging chads”.

It’s been my experience that when software must traverse a broad installed base of diverse equipment types that problems seep in - and Apple is showing its true there too.

Hey 77T, you've been OK?
Thanks for the assurances.... just sometimes annoying, hopefully getting better with the mad-dash fixes..

Mine has not had issues itself - the iOS updates have cured issues uncovered by developers in either components and/or security concerns in Apps like Safari or the baseband.

Got the X this weekend, great phone, gestures are easily adapted. Apple has silicone cases on hand for these, no bulk and not slippery.

Since this thread is titled “8” - thought this recent revelation was noteworthy for 8 owners. X & 8plus not so much.
