Considering first Lange

1815 or 1815 up/down. Both in pink gold. Cant decide. Looking for first dressy watch but doesn’t have to be pure dress. Advice?

The Up/Down is more visually dynamic than the 1815 and the Up/Down indicator is so much fun to see in person. The placement of the two sub registers really give off a sporty vibe (as much as one can get in a rose gold watch case). Go for a current gen 39 mm (stay away from the older 36mms. Very nice pieces but always felt that they were a touch too small).

Go for the 1815 Up/Down. I'm not a fan of the cut off 6 for the center seconds on the 1815.

Definitely u/d over regular 1815. It’s been on my short list for a while , such a great watch. Only thing holding me back is deciding whether to make a big jump to the 1815 chrono.

Well this is pretty unanimous so far! The price tag is about a 5k difference (mid 20s vs low 20s) at AD. A consideration but do not want to regret the purchase. The small seconds appealed to me because of cleaner look and an ever so slightly smaller case. But I agree the up/down has a more visually interesting look and a longer power reserve with the indicator is certainly a plus!

You may want to consider buying pre-owned- last time I checked the delta was pretty big between new from AD/boutique and pre-owned.

Perhaps a Lange 1 instead of either you listed. It's the iconic Lange.

Don’t be afraid of a Saxonia. The “simple” Langes are quite magnificent.

Tried it but didn't wow me like the 1815 did. Lange 1 is also very nice and on my radar. So much to learn about this brand!

I vote for the standard 1815 with just the small seconds, for its simplicity. The u/d is obviously useful, but I always felt it plus the small seconds made the dial look like a chipmunk with full cheeks.

I’m surprised how unanimous it has been for u/d. I’d go with 1815, the u/d feels like deep down you want a sporty Lange but can’t afford the chrono or dato so u fudge it with this bicompax display that has random pops of colour. The simple 1815 u could at least say is a pure classic simple dress watch from Lange. But I agree the cut off six annoys me. I’d go for Lange 1 which is not a compromise in any way. To be fair, I’m just sharing the exact thought process I went through... and the Lange 1 in wg is the only one with lume so it’s “sporty!” - perfect right ;)

I disagree. In no way (I feel) is u/d a compromise. It can be a dress watch but has more versatility and would look way better than the regular 1815 with more casual wear. It's also just a heck of a lot more ineresting to look at. I am a little surprised anyone who has the ability to get the u/d would even consider the plain jane 1815. But everyone has different tastes!

Also just tried on the Lange 1. Albeit the grand lange which was too big. But wow what a gorgeous watch. Guess I need some more time to really decide. What is typical discount on one of these from AD these days?

In our country, typical discount for a Lange is 20 to 25%. Some can get more. :)
