No excuse for not wearing a Daytona Imo. Sapphire crystal and ceramic make up the whole front of the watch. It's probably the most scratch resistant Rolex. No one said do the gardening in it..

I had my platinum day date pearl master on a winder for 20 years just had it serviced and it
Did not need anything but rhr gaskets and crown replaced it runs .5 seconds per day
Another one on the winder for 18 years and had it serviced with no mechanical problems
I was told that there is no difference on wear if on the wrist or on a winder and I have the proof to prove it

Maybe it was a bit harsh but in all honesty if he wants to give it he has to be prepared to take it too. Anyway, I decided that it wasn't a very constructive response so I changed it to something more appropriate.

Nobody likes to hear about real evidence and first hand experience. Most on here are keyboard warriors, trying to justify what others can or can’t do. Without knowing what they’re talking about.

Refreshing to actually see someone give real clarification into the subject with first hand experience.

That being said I’m not a winder guy, and most on TRF are whiner guys.

thanks for the advice, looks like i should take this off from the winder. from the majority of people who answered my post, seems that they would definitely wear it for whatever reasons. i’m not at any collector level but just ok to own one... and love to see the movement... but preserving it in good shape, unlike my daily wear 116710.

OP, if you just want to keep, I think it’s actually better to let it sit. Having it in the winder all the time will wear the movement down and eventually will need service.

Agree!

Welcome OP. Perhaps you can ask one of the moderators to just delete this thread all together because you’re just going to see more of what you’ve gotten. Some people have a tendency to be pretty mean here. Besides I doubt you’ll get your original question answered by many. If you do it’ll be in the extreme minority. In my opinion you should not run it in a watch winder all day every day. If you’re never going to wear it then just wind it all the way up every couple of weeks or every month and let it go through it’s 70 hour cycle.

Agree haha

So I started it on timing mode and it's nearly a month since I work like this.

Anyone out there work your Daytona like me?

Any comment is appreciated?

A lot of members are going to give you crap for not wearing the watch. But hey, it’s your watch.

Lots of members on here buy watches as investments anyway.

If you’re not going to wear it, putting it in the winder is causing the movement to be worn, because the watch is actually working.

I would let off the winder. But again, your watch!

Have six Rolexes on a winder and wear each on rotation. Daytona gets as much exercise as the other five.

Better to just let it sit in the safe.

If in a winder since 2018, it’s like you have used it for two years but sans the scratches.

Not planning to cash it in or bequeath to somebody? If just curious of the values, no need to have bought it.

To each is own. If I were lucky enough to get a call from one of the ADs I have been visiting and acquired a Daytona, it would be on my wrist.

Just a few mm lug to lug. Super case comes off as chunkier whereas the Daytona is sleek and sexy.

Exactly. Maybe not on paper but it certainly feels, looks, and wears bigger to me

“Sleek and dainty” IMO

OP - congrats on the watch and even on your dedication to your 710. Both are great pieces. If you’re wanting to keep the Daytona pristine, put it away, do not wind it except on occasion (maybe once a month or so) and leave it at that. As you navigate the forum you will notice a wide array of personality types, some wonderful and some not so much. Just remember at the end of the day, it’s your watch, your wrist, and your money, so do as YOU please.

Some people buy watches for an investment and I guess that’s fair enough, but this is the first time I’ve heard of someone running a watch but not wearing it.

It’d make more sense not to run it (perfectly safe to do), but if you like watching it run then why not?

Sigh. A lubricated movement will not *wear* parts, that's the whole point of lubrication, removing friction-wear.

These lubricants will eventually dry up, regardless if the watch was worn or in a safe. After X years, you SHOULD bring the watch to get re-oiled, so it's ready for future wear.

Just like you should replace the oil in your car once a year.

Exactly. In 10 years it will have to be serviced whether used or not. The service cost already covers replacing worn parts.

It's illogical to me to waste time worrying about a worn movement. It isn't going in a museum when we're done with it. They made a million just like it.

How do you keep your Daytona?

First don't run the chrono unless you need to; no sense in adding wear for the sake of adding wear. Second, wear the watch like a watch. Are you hoping that your investment will continue to grow. Not the right thing to look for from a watch. On the other hand it's not my business to tell you how to use your belongings. It does remind me of kids who collected yoyos but wouldn't play with them. Talking about accuracy, the Platona is at about 1.5 seconds per month.

This thread need some photos; here are my dailies; they get worn a lot...

Exactly. I use a winder that does not run consistently.....I also use it so I don't have to set the time over and over.

No winder - btw leaving it in taking mode causes excess wear, ask any watchmaker. I’d take it out every few months and get it running to lubrications everything - just like a car.

Ask any watchmaker the price of a 10 year service. It's all the same price at RSC. Who cares.
