Good decision. But do you really have to share it with others? And ask their opinion? That’s awkward, delicately said...

Good contribution....
I posed a question to others on a DISCUSSION forum, you know, to discuss what others are doing in similar situations. Try to remain positive

I'm actually grateful to the OP since I feel the same at the moment and it's nice to know that you are not alone there with your thoughts ..

Echoing what others have said in that this seems like the right decision. I’m still very new to the watch world, but I assume there will be more deals to come down the road. And if you missed out on getting a cool watch and/or making a couple grand in EV to err on the conservative side and maintain peace of mind during a very scary time, I’d say you’re doing it right :)

Hope your wife is able to maintain her position at the company. Pretty scary sector to be involved in right now. Oil prices almost certainly won’t remain down here over the long term, but who knows how long it could last and how many US companies could go under in the meantime. That was Putin/Novak’s plan here to begin with.

Also, I’d tell Bibbi to GTFO but I’m even newer than he is so I’ll let others handle that ;)

You have four posts on this forum. Maybe ease in a little before chastising others for what they choose to post.

Glad you brought it up as I am in a similar situation
And also passed. Just doesn’t feel right given the current state of things and as others have said it’ll always be there later. Thanks for showing me I’m not alone with that. And I don’t agree it’s not appropriate to post this. Post what you want here. If someone doesn’t want to read it they certainly don’t need to comment on it.

Absolutely the right decison. I would do the same in that situation. If I get a call today, I would be hesitant to buy , though I can afford . During these uncertain times, it is better to err on the side if caution. Ignore all the negative posts .

Sorry for the noob question and my bad if we’re not supposed to discuss any of the following, but what price were they offering it to you at? Do all ADs have to sell at or below MSRP? Is there any risk/downside to just “flipping” it on the gray market immediately after buying it?

Great decision considering the circumstances. I’d imagine that the AD would have to make an offer you can’t refuse. I doubt they do that because they can always sell that Sub. Like someone else said, you’ll be able to get it again.

Sounds like a prudent decision for your situation. However, I wouldn't fault or condemn anyone buying in the current climate. If you have the means and solid financial footing, no shame in supporting your local AD in these trying times.

You’re not the only one that passed. These ADs are going to be making calls to a large list of people passing. I would do the same thing in that spot. It’s a Rolex, you can get another one at a better time.

That’s because I’ve come to realize my AD is crap. My time is worth more. That’s why I’ve taken it into my own hands. FTW

I probably would’ve purchased the watch and in the unlikely or likely event that funds were needed, you can always get back a good portion of your money.

Yes all Rolex authorized dealers should be selling watches at MSRP. Whether they offer any discounts, it's up to individual dealers, but most will say they can't offer any discounts (which again really depends on the AD, your relationship, and etc.). In today's market, more dealers are willing to offer some discount on some watches. Definitely not on hard to get models (SS Daytona, BLNR, etc.)

If you buy to flip, there are risks like burning relationship with the dealer and they won't want to sell you in the future, you buying a watch and not able to sell it at a profit which will result in loosing money, etc. Buying Rolex as investment and/or to flip it today's economy is definitely a risk. But people still try it, so you do what you think is best.

If it gets discontinued it would only be because it’s gets a new movement. A black sub or a DJ is the quintessential Rolex in my opinion and it will always be in the lineup. And no, I’m not sure if 2019 was an exception but that’s the only year that it was difficult to get a sub as long as I’ve known Rolex watches. I can’t see the crazy demand of 2019 being sustainable for any luxury brand.

My Rolex Explorer and Omega SMP300 will have to do for now.

Just happy to remain employed knowing that so many are out of work already. Getting bummed out about not purchasing something is pretty dumb!

Anybody else getting the calls/texts from their AD's and passing on a watch you previously would have bought immediately?
You made the right decision. Spending a small fortune on a watch at the eve of a depression makes no sense.

As mentioned, flipping is your choice, but it could be the last watch you get from that AD/chain and damage your relationship
