Would you trade for this?

I have been a longtime Rolex owner and had the privilege of enjoying many models through the years. My current piece is a yellow gold Daytona reverse panda “Newman” dial on a leather strap. It gets little wrist time and I’m ready for a more modern Chrono (nothing from the 80’s or Genta design inspired). I am considering a trade for a Czapek Tao. Have I lost my mind?

I would not, but what you do is your choice.

I guess I should clarify my current “Rolex” is a Daytona. I do have other pieces, but just the one chronograph and am looking for a different Chrono.

I would not. I don’t like the design of the watch at all.

I would make the trade. I don't know values, so that is one hindrance. Watch to watch, the Tao is a better looking, with a more interesting movement, with better finishing, from a neater brand. The Tao is, by quite some margin, the better watch in every aspect.

A Daytona is just one of a million(s). There are people here that literally have 10 Daytona's. But no one has 10 Tao's - they only made 18. There may not even be a member here who has one. It's a far more unique, more interesting watch.

Break away from the heard. Get something actually cool.

As a person who traded a Daytona plus cash for an Overseas chrono, I would say I'd do it if I were you.

So... what do you suggest for a Daytona replacement that is not circa 1984 (Genta design)? I like unique, special, and high end pieces. I prefer this piece be stainless. I admit I have reservations about the Czapek, but when you see it in the flesh it is gorgeous. Also the piece I would request would have no date and baton hands. Yes, those are options.

I would do it. So long as you’ve have some time with the Czapek and you believe the values are correct. The Czapek should be nowhere near whatever their retail price is....

I have no opinion on the trade, but I do like that Czapek. Although, the date placement and execution seems like an afterthought.

For that price I would rather have a ALS or the new 38mm AP chronos

I'm not a huge Daytona fan but I would prefer it over this one personally. Not a fan of a lot of the dial design elements of the Tao but that enamel and panda scheme is very nice.

The design doesnt evoke modern for me.

I heard Czapek used to be partners with fellow Pole Patek.

But they split.

Havent seen a Czapek in the metal so cant comment on quality.

If youre tired of the Daytona, i would hunt for a rattrapante, foudroyante and/or retour-en-vol. Lots of nice chronographs out there to play with.
