bracelet in dishwasher

Yesterday I once again removed my expl II bracelet to clean it with boiling hot water and dishwashing detergent and then a soft scrub. And I wondered what would happen if you were to put the bracelet in the dishwasher? These dishwasher cleaningtablets can be quite potent when I see how they clean our pots and pans:)

I expect that the SS would hold up well but are there any other considerations?

TIA

I think I would rather buy a ultrasonic cleaner for $40. I would worry that the cleansing tablets would leave residue in the cracks.

I would venture to guess that those dishwasher pellets contain some sort of abrasive. Your watch band might be fine with that but the link pins and spring bars might not like it too much.
Personally, I wouldn't do it. I like cleaning my band by hand with a soft toothbrush and hand soap. I'll put it in the ultrasonic every six months or so.

What on earth are you doing to the watch that it requires this type of cleaning?

I used to work in the HI&I chemical business and those cleaners DO have abrasives in them. Hot water and Dawn detergent is one of the best ways to go.

Sounds like a great idea until it drops into the rotating part and wrecks the bracelet and dishwasher. Meh, personally I do not do stuff like that as my days of taking risks are in the past.

WOW! Sounds like a great idea!! I always wondered if there was an easier way than running it under warm water and some dishwashing soap!!

Stainless steel silverware develops hairline scratches/swirls over time from the dishwasher and its detergents. I imagine the same would happen with a bracelet. But certainly you could eat off it.

Nope, soap and water, or if you want to get fancy there are sprays that are fantastic. I wouldn't put a watch part of any kind in the dishwasher.

I did just that, dishwasher will probably work just fine, but I like fiddling around from time to time giving my watches a thorough cleaning using the ultrasonic.

Lower grades of stainless can be etched by whatever is in those tablets. Probably not an issue for Rolex steel but why take a chance when inexpensive ultrasonic cleaner does such a good job.

Interesting thought but I would just wash it by hand.

I think as long as you didn't use a detergent or pellet, it'd be completely fine. Mine has a small plastic box that fits on the upper rack for really small items, don't see why this would hurt at all.

i would suggest anyone trying this do so by using the upper rack only, not the lower rack. also make sure you spray it with cool water after it has run through the band will be hot.

Dishwashers are made for cleaning dried food off dishes and silverware. I think cleaning a bracelet in there would be foolish and not do any better than a soft toothbrush, warm water and a little Dawn or similar. I would not want dishwasher soap residue or hard water stains on my bracelet. Just sayin'

It will be fine, as long as you dry it in the Microwave afterward to make sure there's no water remaining.

I'm w/Brian: what in the world are you doing to this watch that you would even consider this?

If it's good enough for the Georg Jensen cutlery! I would think seriously unnecessary but would work fine.

How about some warm water, a soft brush, liquid soap? Or use VERAET.

Okay lets cut the BS. The true test is to put the whole watch in the dishwasher, 55 degrees C normal cycle, it should be fine, not the equivalent of 10 atmospheres surely.

Of course I would only use a Miele or Gaggenau!
